Northeast - Biking from Providence to Newport

I wanted to explore whether biking between these towns is feasible and, if so, whether someone knows a relatively flat route.

I did a google search for "cycling newport ri" and the following site came up:

Once you bring up the site, scroll down and you should find exactly what you are looking for. When you click the link it will bring up route descriptions and a map with the route hi-lighted. If I recall correctly the route between Newport and Providence is about 50 miles. Hope this helps.

East Bay Bike Path. Once you get off you can ride over the Mount Hope Bridge towards Newport. It very high with low guardrails and bikes can go over. The bridge even has a sign on it for biking

are you doing this as a one way trip or a loop? Like the others said.. getting onto the bike path would be the easiest way from prov to Bristol about 15 mi flat. Then you'd take 114 over mt hope (which can be quite busy and an uphill start or you can take the RIPTA bus across), then take 114 or 138 through portsmouth and middletown.. both equally busy.. but if you look at a map or google then you can find side streets that go parallel that will be less crazy.

I forgot to mention the RI DOT site has an excellent map. it can be downloaded or ask them to send a copy.
I middletown, there is the Brma Road path, its on the road but striped off for bikes that takes you towards the naval center. There is also a campground nearby.

Just returned from a biking tour of New England - Rhode Island was definitely the most challenging state in terms of road quality and impassible bridges.

Thanks, I'll check out the link. My initial search only turned up some blog by someone who got lost so I figured they may have not chosen the best path.

One way. I'm debating meeting relatives who will be taking a week long vacation there. I don't have the option of taking a week off, don't currently own a car, and don't want to rent a car. Amtrak drops off in Providence and I could take the buses but felt it would be fun to bike it if it is feasible.
