Howdy
My big interest is bike commuting and touring. I ride a Specialized Rockcombo-actually thats how I found about this forum, I was researching info about this rare bike and found postings that another member had written. It works well for commuting in that it is tough and fairly versatile. I like the drop bars because I can get low when facing a headwind. I have a thirty two mile commute to work and ride shorter errands and rides whenever possible. I am looking to get a Surly Crosscheck but money is tight so I am doing it the old fashioned way-saving up for it. Actually I have heard and read mostly good things about the crosscheck except for the tires. I think the crosscheck will be better for longer commutes and rides.
I am fairly new to biking having been into martial arts and running when I was younger (I'm 48). I'm trying to bike as much as possible but I have three kids and it is hard to fit them in a pannier without them whining. For this reason, I cannot commute nearly as much as I would like. I like to read about other peoples opinions and experiences about everything from bikes to riding in traffic.
Hope to hear from anyone who has had or has a rockcombo-curious to see what you think about it
Mark

Welcome. I'm interested to hear about any solutions you come up with for riding with your kids. I've got 2, 4 and 2 years old, and they are starting to get too big for our bike trailer. I'm getting ready to experiment with some options myself.

My kids are 8,10,& 12 so Burly trailers are out of the question. Taking them with on errands is not much of a problem but driving them to school or coordinating their pick up with my having to leave earlier than usual(to bike) presents a problem. My wife and I might trade off days so she could bike to work on certain days and I could bike in on other days. Minneapolis is actually bike friendly so we both have decent routes with bike lanes or bike trails. She has a stretch on a busy road but it has a designated bike path. We'll see how it works. Thannx for the welcome.

Hello Mark! I have not heard of a Rockcombo, so would you mind posting some photos? Are you trying to get your children on board with riding to school, and whilst running errands, or are you talking about just taking them on weekend rides?

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !
