Bicycle Mechanics - Will Mavic SSC 801 rear derailleur work on bike with verticle rear dropout?

I have a 1991 Bridgestone RB1 road bike I'm preparing to get on the road again, the bike has a vertical rear dropout, will a mid 80's Mavic SSC rear derailleur {model 801 I think** work with the vertical rear drop out or will only a parallelogram rear derailleur work?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Bob Thomas

Should work just fine, just like on all those old Vitus frames.

"Work" is a relative term. Yes, the Mavic will shift the chain from gear-to-gear. But the effort and movements of the shifter by the rider will be "work" as well. Along with lots of grunting and swearing. But yea, it'll move the chain and shift.
