I know they're not the greatest but for the time being they're all I've got for my wife's Trek 820 Antelope. I am having a problem shifting into my larger rear sprockets. The chain has been on the smallest and I have been able to get it to the next one but after that the shifter doesn't do anything.

I've opened up the shifter but...well, rapid-fire shifters are a little more complex than friction shifters, which is all I've really worked with from a maintenance standpoint. Any suggestions?

I've had good luck lubing the heck out of them. Open them up, spray lots of WD40 or light oil and physically manipulate the pawls till they move freely (needle nose pliers work good for this). Once you get them working freely, start getting everything else moving freely by pushing on the levers. Reassemble, adjust and you should be good to go. My son's MTB has the 200GS series and now after I got them freed up, they work great.

Just one question- is it pulling cable, but letting it back down?
IF so, just blast the heck out of it with WD-40 or similar. Let it sit an hour and repeat.
I was able to resurrect the front shifter on my 91 820 antelope that way.

After flushing, when you shift, push the lever as far as you can, and then ease it back down SLOWLY. Once the pawl catches, progress will be rapid. It may take a couple more "flush" cycles.
If that doesn't work, it's replacement time.
