I thought I understood exactly how to get these back together but I don't. I took them apart (usually having a great memory for this stuff) and was confused upon reassembly. Classic.

Grrrr I can't find a diagram however I will attach a photo of the shifter model (found on google).

What made things confusing was that someone had liberated the ratchet out of the left lever (front derailleur) or it just didn't come with one because with all of that leverage for one gear it mightn't have needed one.

Anyway, if anyone has any experience with these please share. I'd love to get it back together correctly.

Well, I sat down and when I put my brain to it everything made sense and I got them back together working beautifully. And no, there are not two ratchets on this system, just one. If anyone has trouble with this unit please let me know and I will be able to help you or make a diagram!

Had a set of downtube PowerShifters a long, long time ago. They were great!

I'm having the same issue. I was hoping if you could let me know how you put oyurs back together. Attached is a picture of a sight i'm sure you were familiar with. I am also concerned about parts missing; from what you can tell, does it look like it is all there?

The left shifter was unracheted by design. The toothed wheel goes inside the right shifter, with the spring tab in the lever body engaged in the teeth. IIRC, one of the plated washers goes between the lever and mounting bracket, the thin black washers on either side of the lever, then the other chrome washer, the star spring and finally the cover plate.

That would only account for 4 of the 5 small thin washers and also I can't get the ratchet to work with that set up either; the gear just spins with the lever. I cant get enough friction to hold it in place.
