SWMBO and I did a mini-tour from Toronto to Hamilton recently. It was credit card touring at its' best, with a stop at the Sheraton in Hamilton. The hotel was nice, but the friendly service was amazing.
You can follow the Waterfront Trail (http://www.waterfronttrail.org/)to Hamilton. We ended up taking Plains Road from Burlington to avoid the incredible hills as you near Hamilton.Hamilton (http://www.tourismhamilton.com/subdetail.cfm?id=36) has been trying to shake off its' "lunch bucket town'" moniker by re-doing the waterfront. There is a great bike trail that runs along the foreshore and goes along Hamilton Harbour to the DeJardain (sp) canal to Coote's Paradise.
There is a thriving artist colony in Hamilton, many of whom have deserted the high rents of Toronto for the cheap and funky west end.
Nice two day sojourn.
