Weird inspirations & Happenings:;)

Climbed San Bruno Mountain on a single speed. That was a tough one. Mt. Tam next. Btw on the same day I just happended to run into "Constant Rider" who took me off road with the Taxi bike on Lands End..That was cool! Thanks Greg, I would have never done that if I hadn't run into you.

Got really speedy on a pot of coffee plus close to 12 peanut butter cookies and tried to see how fast I could paint my music studio with 4 glow colors and 2 colors of checked contact paper… Nice! But strange ; ) .

My friend Danielle from the mid west crashed her bike while on a cell phone trying to shift into her big chain ring with her RIGHT hand! Over the handle bars and on her back in some ones front yard…people stopped and she ran away embarrassed!

Found an awesome web site “8 tracks” with great mix’s that stream perfect. Great for when your round the house.

Out walking my dog the other day at Las Trampas, and we came across a lady on the same trail - my dog does what it always does around strangers - down on her belly, wagging her tail, and clearly wanting to play. The lady freaked - she started screaming about being bitten by at least 7 other dogs, was jumping up and down, waving her arms around - she was so worked up she started making my dog nervous. I had to put her on her leash (the dog, not the lady) and walk her around the crazed lady.

Not sure what this lady would do if she ran across some of the more aggressive dogs that get walked around here.

My Golden Retriever would have been all over her - he thinks jumping up and down and waving of arms are an invitation to play.

I twisted my ankle last night dancing in my cowboy boots. It's swollen and painful and I limp like an old lady.

What's weirder is that it fits in my Sidi and didn't hurt at all on our 33 mile tandem right today.

Heh. I'm happy about that.

Hope your ankle gets better quickly, Deb.

I saw a really sweet scene on the MUP, I was out walking the dogs. A young girl (7-8 years) and her father were riding by, going the other way.

Girl: Dad, can we go bike riding every day?
Father: Sure, let's make it a daily thing.
Girl [gleefully]: Really? Every day?
Father [smiling]: Yes, every day.
:)

Also saw a couple of guys illegally riding dirtbikes on there, they are out there from time to time.

You need to quit dancing on those table tops (that happened to my friend at Senor Frog's in Cabo - we all had too many tequila shooters after laying on the beach - those were the days . . . . never to be recreated).

Thats funny because I had the same experience when my Tri-guy cousin invited me to ride where he lives, Mountain House, CA. I thought, "I will need the triple for all the climbing we are going to be doing." I get there and it turns out that Mountain House community is flat as a pancake.

Certainly not the same guy who named "Upenuf Road".

I've been having a heck of a time trying to figure out a schedule that allows me to have a relaxing cup of coffee, help get the wife and kids off to school (the kids are attending school, my wife is starting one), take the dogs for a good long walk, get to work at a reasonable hour myself, and fit in a ride. So guess what's suffered? I haven't had a midweek ride since July, and even my weekend rides are short.

Ever since we got Zeena the Greyhound, if I don't take her for a good walk in the morning, she looks at me with those big brown eyes in that pointy head, and turns on the guilt.

She's a master of nonverbal communication! I'm starting to think I need to get up at 5 AM, and believe me, early morning and I are NOT good friends.

I typically run my dog every other day for about 40 minutes or so. Sometimes his mom also runs him, so he typically doesn't give us guilty looks. More like burrowing the eyebrow when he sees us reaching for the leash.

Zeena is gorgeous!

I typically take my dogs running first thing in the morning (except when injuries get in the way), it wakes me up, tires them out, and is great cross-training for cycling.

I grew up across the river in south Jersey, where it's generally Davis-flat. I never rode in PA, and it's just as pretty and green and humid as can be.

My PC is possessed. It wouldn't boot ... not even get to CMOS. Took it into helpdesk, then they swapped the hard drive into an identical T43. That worked for about a day. Take it home, then it fails again. This time, it complains about unmountable volume. One week later, laptop comes back from repair, and take it home ... 3 hours later, same issue.

Maybe I am zapping laptops at will. Good thing my bike does not rely on electrical signals ...

Drive is toast most likely. Sounds like you might have the King Midas static touch. They probably tossed the drive in the freezer for a few hours. I've done that a few times to get data that had to be recovered.

Beware, when you get old, you can't recover as fast ... More specifically, when you go play jungle ball ... I mean volley ball, at a picnic, remember you are not as young as you used to be. What's worse, I rode to the picnic. I only played three games, and I am so stiff ... I feel like I aged 10 years over the weekend. Ugh. They make it look sooooo easy on TV.

Plus, had a couple of entertaining encounters on the way home...

First was on Alameda de las Pulgas. Some guy on a road bike passed me, working hard. Once he felt he had gotten far enough ahead, he sat up and relaxed. Well, we got to a bit of a hill, and I was able to make up the difference. He didn't notice until I was right on his ass, then he looked back, saw me, and stood up to mash up the rest of the little hill. Unfortunately for me it leveled out, I can't keep up on flat ground.
Guess he didn't like the idea of being passed by a girl on a clown bike. :p

Then by El Camino, met a woman on a comfort bike and had an interesting conversation as we waited for the light:
Her: That's a really cool-looking bike!
Me: Thanks!
Her (dead serious): Is that a road-racing bike?
Me: Um, no, it's a folding bike.
Her: A what?
Me: Folding. It folds up, small (made some hand motions to illustrate).
Her: You have got to be kidding me!!! So you can take it on the bus???

I was having a hard time holding back the laughter...I mean, I can't think of too many bikes that look farther from a road-racing bike.

So last week I had a slow leak in my front tire on my way to work. I knew it would be flat at the end of the day so I asked my wife to bring a floor pump to my work. It was sort of a crappy one but worked well enough to pump up a tire. So I decided to leave it on top of the bike lockers in the garage at my work for others to use. I taped a sign on it "Use it but don't abuse it. That would be bad karma."

Well I should have put "Don't steal this pump. Karma's a *****." because after two days it's gone. :( Some people suck.

I on the other hand was not too lucky. It wasn't raining this morning so I rode in to work with the non-fendered bike and forecast shows no rain until 4 pm. I figured it won't start raining until I'm almost home and the roads will still be a little dry. Of course the rain started around 2 pm and the roads were drenched by the time I left for home. That in itself is not too bad but the drivers on the other hand are crazy. I though heat brings out the crazy drivers. It turned out that rain brings out crazier drivers.

Weird or new stuff here? OK, I got word today that the Tour of California will come into Santa Rosa from Calistoga along Calistoga Road into Rincon Valley - Hwy 12 - and 4th St. into downtown. What's weird? There is a part of Calistoga road that is narrow, steep, twisted, and usually wet at that season. I'd not send my worst enemy on that road - I'd want to kill him myself.
