I'm wondering how to install the crown race because I don't specifcally know what kind of tool to use and if I can install the crown race correctly. Thanks for your help.

You need a slide hammer. A piece of pipe just large enough to easily slide over the steerer will do nicely, provided it has a perfectly square cut on the end that hits the crown race and is not so large that it hits only the outer edge of the race.

A lot of newer races slide right on. Check before buying the slide hammer.

If the bearing race for your fork crown, slides right on, its too large. Don't use it.
The race must fit in a "pressed-on" mode, else the race might start turning with your steerer, thus rubbing against the top of your fork. Yo want the bearing to turn against the race and not the race turning against your fork.

I would stop by your LBS and see if they will lend you a hand. At this time of year (around here, anyway), they're just glad to see somebody come into the shop and will generally help you out for nothing. If I've asked for something more than, say, removing a freewheel for which I don't have the tool, I'll buy a cable or something to make me feel better (they don't seem to mind at all).

That's true, some of them are split so they need no special tools to install. If it is a press fit, it is a very slight press and can be done with a small punch, or a piece of wood and a mallet. Just be careful not to damage the actual bearing surface.
