I always wanted to be a professional soccer player. That dream ended quickly.
An inventor. Eh--still working on it.

I can't remember very much from when I was little ... I suspect something in the sciences/business, though.

an actress.
eventually that dream died, until...
long story short, I got my "big break" in college in a movie a film major acquaintance from work was putting together for a festival.
Being performance shy, I drug my feet on getting in it. Week after week these film dudes kept asking me to audition. They even tried to pull one over on me by sending the resident "hot guy" from the office in to flatter me. Flattery always fails on me, and they got me to audition by telling me frankly "we need someone to be b*tchy for this role." So I auditioned, got the role, spent half the summer on the thing- had a TON of fun.
That fall it premiered at a historic theatre in town (mostly faculty, friends, family, a few random townies and students). It was the first time I saw it. A horriffic and embarassing performance on my part- plus poorly filmed, directed, and produced which made it look even worse.
I also did a horror flick that fall, just for kicks.
That dream has has now been buried.

I wanted to build a shelter to save all the homeless animals. When I was 7 my mother and I went to the bank with my piggy bank and a hammer and told the lady I was going to build a shelter when I save enough money. I had about 7 bucks worth of change in there and I opened my first bank account.
I never did build that shelter but I do come home with a lot of tossed away four footed (and non footed) friends. :)
Currently I have three dogs, two cats, two snakes, lizards and some fish. Got rid of the stupid finches, all they do is go "meep meep meep!" :notamused:
Oh and....the people in the house don't know it yet but I have a kitten that was just born two days ago. I have a couple of months to break it to them.
A pilot. For quite a few years now, I have successfully defied gravity but I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up.
I wanted to be in Ann Margret's and Elvis Presley's filmworld.

Astronomer. Ain't it weird? Most little kids dream of flying among the stars (hello wannabe astronauts above), but I was dreaming of looking up at them with big ass telescopes.
Another wannabe astronaut. I actually had a pretty detailed plan: go to the Air Force Academy, fly fighters, then fly the SR-71, then become a test pilot, then become an astronaut.
Unfortunately, in 6th grade I had to get glasses for near-sightedness and the whole plan went out the window.
according to my mom I guess wanted to grow up.
I made it to the last round of fire fighter testing.
and was a pro-wrestler for a bit.
tried to become a motorcycle racer.
and went to race school.
did a bunch of other stuff kids talk about.

I wanted to be a teacher, and got into tutoring right out of high school. Then I realized that hearing a bunch of people talking all at once stresses me out. Remember the roar of the school cafeteria? Literally makes me want to gouge my eyes out.
Now I'm an ambulance dispatcher. I only hear a maximum of five people at once, and I can turn my radios down if their traffic doesn't pertain to me. Much more pleasant!
Now I'm not sure what I want to be when I grow up. I'm having fun dispatching, I might just do that forever.

same thing happened to me. 2nd grade my eyes went bad, that dream crash landed along with my mothers hopes of me getting good grades.....
I wanted to be an inventor too, I still 'invent' all the time... that was as a child... as a teen, I wanted to be an F-16 Fighter Pilot, mostly due to this:

Growing up is overrated.

Found out that sucks, now I design medical products, much more interesting than cars.

lol. I'm a pretty tedious person, but even digging up dinosaur bones would get dull after a while. Actually, I was more interested in anthropology as a kid, like the Egyptians and stuff. I wanna be a tomb raider! :D
I hear ya.
Egyptology, or Mezzo American study would be sweet.

archaeologist, I used to (in the middle of North Philly) go digging for fossils, found a bunch too! Mostly plants (fern for some reason?) but some cool little critters every once and a while :) I lived right across from the train tracks and it was all the way it was for 100s of years back there. I was lucky enough to find a coal deposit (dont know if it was natural or just an abandoned coal storage area?) most if not all of my fossils came from there. Good times they were!

Now I just glow in the dark at a nuke plant.

With how lovely my hometown was and my childhood I believe my dream was to have a job.
Later it changed into being a programmer. Now I am an odd form of a programmer.

Things I remember considering:
Fish or reptile breeder. (Seeing something on TV on the way they breed salmon quickly ended me wanting to do that though...)
Car designer (Decided it would take way to much work to get to, though I think I could see me doing a much better job than some people out there...)
Auto Mechanic (Just decided it didn't sound all that fun)
I still have no idea what the heck I want to do... Only things I can really think of that sound ok to me are cook, or working at an LBS.

Since I was little, I'd spend time with my dad at his lab. He's a clinical microbiologist, and I always wanted to be a scientist like him.
Right out of college I started with the R&D division of a small virology company, then I went on to be a product specialist with a diagnostic company. Now I'm in engineering, working for another biotech diagnostic company.
I grew up to be the scientist I wanted to be when I was a little kid.
