Now that I'm below the max weight for most folders(215 and falling ) , I'm thinking of getting one to put behind the seat in my extended cab Toyota pickup , so it would be handy when needed or in case I just wanted to ride when I'm away from the neighborhood. Just a single speed Dahon. Any of you have one ? What do you think of it? kirby

There's a weight limit on folders? I didnt know that.

During my last event, Moonnight Ramble in St Louis, I talked to a couple of bike shop workers who had a Dahon Curve and DS8. I was able to ride the block with the DS8 and I really liked it. I was worried about my weight, but they didn't seem to think it was a problem WITH QUIALITY FOLDERS. IT seems that tire air pressure is more important.

So I wouldn't worry at 215, for I'm at 280!

A cap for the truck would be a good choice.

A cap for the truck would be a good choice.

They still make those? I though with the popularity of the enclosed bed style SUV that pickups with caps had just about disappeared, I haven't seen one in years..... Now having said that I'll probably see 10 today:wtf:

I have a hard tonneau cover on my p'up but it limits what I can haul . I think a folder would fit nicely though; either behind the seat or in the bed. kirby

I would ask over in the Folding Bikes forum if anyone would mind sharing their weight. :) I know not everyone there is the same size as their bikes.

Not sure whether to recommend an old Twenty like mine. It has a mahoosively heavy steel frame and can probably hold more weight than the modern folders. I weigh about 180 lb; it can carry me, and I can carry it up a flight of stairs. I would be worried about tire pressure and rim strength. Those are giving me problems on mine and I'm looking into taking a wheelbuilding course.

Many folders have a 105 kg (230lb) limit. Swift is higher. 245 if I recollect correctly.

I found Dahons very bendy. I ride a Downtube which has the highest weight allowance in its price range (240). Your height will be more important in terms of comfort than weight.

I just ordered a single speed Dahon Boardwalk S1 from Performance . I'm 5-11 but I have the inseam of someone around 5-8 LOL . I don't "fit" most of the bikes that should be my size. I've found I'm more comfortable on a smaller frame . kirby
