I finally found a media player that I like. I hate Windows media player. I hate Creative play center. I hate Jukebox. I absolutely despise WinAmp (so what if it can whip a llama's ass- it ain't good for anything else!).

Last night I downloaded iTunes and I LOVE it. Great program- easy to use and well thought out. It's about time somebody got it right.

But, oh man, what a resource hog. iTunes requires a minimum processor speed of 550MHz and they really mean it! My computer has a 400MHz AMD with a 100MHz system bus and 512MB of RAM and it chokes if I try to run iTunes and anything else at the same time. I went back to 800x600 pixels to free up some processor cycles and everything is running much better now.

Of course, the real problem here is that my computer doesn't meet the minumum spec. So now I have a good excuse to buy a new motherboard :-)

That machine of yours probably chokes if you look at wrong.

Or perhaps there could be a Mac in your future!

I dig iTunes... I've been using it first on a Mac at work, now on my PC at home... it is FAR superior to Media Player !

Yep :-)

I built it in 1999 from Tiger Direct parts. Even then, it was one-year-old technology. It is definitely time to upgrade the guts :-)

As far as sound quality is concerned, the best playback software is Foobar 2000.

It has much better dithering, or you can turn it off altogether. It also has the ability to completely bypass AC97 should you like...

Oh yeah, and hardware requirements are as minimalist as it gets...

You can get it from www.foobar2000.org

Listening to it while I read your post. Where else can you download 'Xanadu' by Olivia Newton John and ELO? (woops, shouldn't have mentioned that).

Anyway, enjoy.

I was watching the news a few weeks back, and they said that there would be a new downloading music source online where you could get tunes for something like 88 cents a tune. I can't remember the name of the service, but does anyone know it offhand? It wasn't Wal-mart.
