Fifty Plus (50+) - Which is more likely?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Which is more likely?
I would have voted: "Tom Bombadil becomes an astronaut", but it was not a choice.

Tom Bombadil has seen the first acorn and the first raindrop. He has been here since the beginnings of Middle Earth. So I wouldn't put anything past him, nor would I make any assumptions about what he might or might not do. It's all possible.
For all we know, he doesn't even need pedals, instead being able to just coast up hills sitting straight up riding hands-free.

Anything he wants to do, he'll do.
Your choices are too limited for my opinion, so I didn't vote. I like the concept, however.
In another post, he said he hasn't gone clipless yet, which implies there's still a chance. Therefore, I voted he's more likely to go clipless. However, the odds are still extraordinarily low..... like 1 in a bazillion.

You left out...
Tom analyzes, reanalyzes and overanalyzes every possible aspect of each choice to the point that nobody can remember what it is he's talking about and then proceeds to not do either.

Given where Tom lives I would expect an MTB with studded Nokians and crampons on his feet not cleats.

Tom Bombadil has monkeys fly out of his butt is a far better poll option.

Who is Tom Bombadil?

I doubt the poseur even owns a bike.
I mean has anyone ever seen him riding a bike? Or even a picture of him on a bike?
Come to think of it, we haven't.
The answer: Joe Biden.
What was the question, again?
Come to think of it, we haven't.
Careful...he may post one:thumb::p

There simply isn't enough data to make a choice!

If you had said "nickles" then that's already happened. But enough of that story.

More LIKELY? Going clipless.
You see, the man has on several occasions made mention of shopping for
and test riding recumbents and he currently owns one. One day he'll walk
into a shop and "THE RECUMBENT" will be there. They will be united, he'll
eventually go clipless and they will be one.
Hey, it could happen.

Having a rough night, Jet Travis?
If Tom does anything, it will only be after years of testing clips and/or drop bars!
I'm surprised, he has a bike.

I voted "Tom gets dropped bars" but I only did it to because nobody else had taken that choice and I wanted to be contrary.

After having waited to allow others to weigh in, and to get some nickles out of my butt, I will now give the definitive (or at least as definitive as I can get) answer.
Percent chance of going clipless: 35%
Percent chance of going with drop bars: 1%
Percent chance of going drop bars & clipless: 1%
Percent chance of doing neither: 63%
Given that I already have strapless toe clips on one bike and Power Grips on a second bike, I've already shown that I am willing to go beyond a plain platform pedal. And I have studded Wellgo MG-1 platforms on my recumbent, which I like very much.
The Power Grips adhere my foot to the pedal tightly. I can't see as how a clipless pedal could make hardly any difference in performance from them. If not 100% the performance of clipless, then it has to be at least 95%. Do I realize any appreciable performances gains from them as compared to a plain platform ... if anything it is marginal. Perhaps I would if I was on my new Fuji and trying to set a personal best over some distance. But I never do that. For now, I'll see how those plastic toe clips work out.
Nevertheless I do sometimes think about trying out clipless. The biggest obstacle is the shoe. I almost never go for just a bike ride, I almost always have a walk, or several walks integrated within an outing. Those shoes aren't comfortable to walk in. Thus a comfortable hiking shoe with Power Grips is a pretty good compromise solution for me.
I actually own a pair of clipless pedals. Picked them up in Jan, '07 at the Madison Swap Meet for $3. A used paid of Shimano's, I forget which number. They sit at the bottom of my parts box.
Drop bars ... not in the foreseeable future. Tried them several times and hated them. But who knows, in a couple of years I might try them again and things could be different. I never rule anything out. As a statistician, there are few things in life that I see as certain. Almost everything is just a matter of probabilities.
If this post isn't a classic Bombadil, then I don't know what is.

I was in a shop today that carried lots of those wooden signs with cute sayings. I saw one and cracked up, started laughing out loud. It read:
"I have Flying Monkeys ... and I'm not afraid to use them."
