Mountain Biking - Painted Rotors

i was cleanin up my basement and found some old wheel paint i used on my car and wanted to use it on something. well i did just this. i painted a rotor up (cause i didnt know how it would look). personally like it. its subtle on my bike but also makes it stand out. here is what i did. it matches my bb7 caliper, and close to the frame color. ill take outside daylight pics later. what do you think so far?

I wonder if that will "insulate" the rotor and cause excessive heat....hmm...?

i highly highly doubt it. i dont think the heat generated is enough and is not really dispersed much down toward the hub as much it as it escapes pretty quick with the cross drilled holes and constant movement. plus in not a extreme downhiller who needs to be on the brakes hard and all the time. if im on the brakes its cause im tryin to get down or around somethin slow, the rest i try to coast it off to scrub speed

Congrats on screwing up your rotors with the adhesive patch on the tape.

thank you i guess. i rubbed it down with a cloth and rubbing alcohol after ward so the would be residue, if any, from the lightly tacky 3M painters tape isnt there. i figure the pads are more than well seated on these seasoned rotors that it shouldnt have a problem. but i guess i will find out on the first drop in huh

If you did clean the rotor you might be ok.

Sorry, I think it's silly.The masking is uneven at that, and the paint/rotors will look like crap soon enough, at least if you do any off-road riding. What's wrong with SS?

I'm curious to know what adapter you're running to be using a 180mm rotor with your Avids, considering their middle size is a 185mm.

Yeah, I also think it was a lot of effort for something that is likely to turn out fugly in the end. (and this coming from a guy who is running all sorts of colored stuff on his rides)

nothing "wrong" with it, just thought it would be neat and stand out a little. i know itll get abused on the trail, but it takes minutes to do (or redo). adds a little character i guess. btw this same paint has been on my car i daily drive year round (read that as horrible snow from chicagoland) and the paint it still on my rims. ya it has chips and has dulled a little but it has faired rather well

The adapter is the bit that connects your brakes to your frame/fork. Differing sizes depending on what brake caliper and rotor size you are running.

Avid brakes have standard sizes of 160, 185, and 203mm. You've got 180mm Tektro rotors there, thus the question. Either you've got some non-Avid adapter in use, or you're going to get uneven pad contact on your rotors due to the 5mm smaller rotor size. Or whomever you bought the brakes from shaved down the adapters you have to make things work properly.

i understand what it is, just dont know which one it is. ill check when i get home
