Well the past few days I haven't felt good so I'm going to the Dr. As far as cycling goes, is there anything I should check about before starting?

Ask questions. Like...

- Can I exercise?
- How much? How strenuously?
- What should I watch out for (trouble signs)?

That's about it.

I should add, although it may not be necessary, that when you start being active, you'll discover some aches and pains. This is normal. Really active people, particularly in certain kinds of activities, rarely have a day that something isn't a bit sore or bruised or tired (although cycling is about as easy on the parts as anything). Over time, you learn what is a small discomfort, to be dealt with yourself, and what is something that should get a doctor's attention. The small discomforts that go with an active life often seem like a very big deal to a sedentary person, and some people have a big struggle with accepting this discomfort and getting on with it. I think it's worth remembering that the small discomforts of being active are nothing compared to the pain of a heart attack.

I would start by telling the doctor you want to start doing some cycling, your doctor should know roughly what to look for, that could cause issues, especially if you have been going to the same doctor for a while. Your doctor has a history for you, we don't, even doctors on the forum don't have that history. Expect the doc to do an ECG, to check out the old pump, and maybe some blood tests. Most doctors, are encouraging, because cycling is low impact (unless you fall off).

Just called the doctor's office and my normal doctor is not in today. This is unfortunate for me because my main doctor is a cyclist who races in charity events and etc...

Wait for your doctor to return! In the long run you will be more comfortable and probably get the best advice at the end of the day.

Back from the doctor. I will talk to my regular about it anyway when he returns.
