Foo - First Day of School

So how many people had to take a kid to school today? How did it go for you?

First day of second grade for my oldest son. His school is undergoing a 30 year remodel, so it is in a major state of disarray. We parked a block away and walked to school together, carrying all his gear. It went really well. I think the mess helped him not worry about going back to school, so there was no "i don't want to go, don't leave me daddy" stuff.

On a side note, I cannot believe the amount of stuff my wife bought. She thinks it is her job to supply tissue, wipes, other classroom supplies. Actually this is not a bad thing. The mom's in the PTA do a really good job of supplying items that the kids/teachers want or need that are not covered in the budget. We live in a great neighborhood and have great schools.

Finally, I like having the kids back in school, because I actually get up and get going at 6AM and am at work by 8. In the summer when they can sleep in, not so much.:innocent:

Im interested in asking my wife about today when I see her this evening. She's a 5th grade teacher.
She said for the first time she will have an autistic child (and aide) in the class. The district is now
incorporating them into regular classes. What's sad is she's expecting some kids to perform lower
than the autistic kid.

Have all three of my cousins little kids being autistic (fragile x gene) - from severe to not so and the twins (not so severe) are being put into (with aide) 1st grade with everyone else too and I bet they'll do quite well. They tend to get really focused on a task in order to see it finished.

Didn't have to bring kids to school but since I'm still on summer vacation for another month I'm in charge of getting them fed, bathed, and dressed in the morning.

I have the maturity level of an 8 year old and had to bring myself to school. Does that count?

School here in Va started last Wed our daughter 6 is a big bad first grader.

Same thing here with my wife, I tell her when was in 1st grade I was lucky to go with a notebook, thanx jimmy carter.

All year long it's my job to get the turds up and ready so the wife can take them to daycare and school. She starts at 8:30 or 9.

My wife and I walked my youngest daughter to school today. She starts 4th grade this year and she was excited because she got to be on the other side of the school with the bigger kids now. Good times.

So how many people had to take a kid to school today? How did it go for you?

Mine is starting 2nd next Wednesday. He is pretty up on it but would rather have summer continue. He was in the same K/1 class last 2 yrs so this is his first new teacher in a while. One of his classmates will be a friend from pre-school so they go back a ways.

The supply list was just a 2" binder and a check for $10.

3.5 yr old continues as ever at her pre-school.

Not me, but I remember my first day of school when I was in second grade. There was this kid named Bruce who I knew from first grade. When his dad brought him into class he started crying. I remember thinking "What a baby!"

One of the few memories I have from that age.

I did not cry much, and I do not think any of the kids noticed.

I can only have traffic counts done during the school year.

I'm gonna miss reading posts like this when my kids get older. Oh wait, they are older ... 11 & 12. They start 6th & 7th grade tomorrow.

- The girls concern, using her new straightening iron the night before.
- The boys concern, getting replacement sneakers for what he wore to his last day of school. I can't believe how picky he is.

They are taking the bus now, but sometimes I drop them off after my busy season lets up in December. But I remember walking them and holding their hands ... :-) I tried to hold their hands crossing a busy intersection recently - that didn't go well ... :-( Daddy misses that.

pretty soon, you'll just be tossin them the keyys.

This year they're gonna get cell phones. Their Mom is fussing about it, but it's inevitable.

I (thankfully) have no children, but I know school started here last Wednesday, because on my bike commute to work in the morning, I not only have to cross the main road heading toward the hideously overcrowded high school, but I pass by one of the area elementary schools as well. My chances of getting creamed or doored by some inattentive jackass go up significantly nine months out of the year. :rolleyes:

If we all stop having kids, we could stop worrying about your troubles in about 80 years, or less. Sorry x. When I get home tonight, I am gonna take the doors off my cars.

My youngest graduated from high school about 6 years ago. ;)

In less than two weeks, I will be hearing this at home:

"I don't wanna go to school! Call the school and tell them my tummy hurts!" and I reply "You have to go to school, sweetie. You are the teacher."

Or at the very, very least, people being competent drivers and paying attention when they're driving a deadly weapon.

Realistically, however, I'm sure the extinction of the human race is the most likely of those scenarios.

My little lady is just a toddler. But don't worry, x, we'll be walking or biking in when she finally goes to school.

I took myself to school today. First day of college. I'm a freshman. It was dull. Probably had something to do that got there at 7:30 and my first class wasn't untill noon. oh well. The DDR machine got a workout. And so did I.

My son started back to daycare last Monday and hes already got the "I dont wanna go to school" thing down... He started crying this morning when it was time to get outta the car...

I moved in on campus Saturday, and classes start Thursday.

In here, the school/teacher sends a list of supplies and you are expected to get them. It is the norm. Probably, with ur wife being on the PTA and stuff, you never got to read the note... maybe she just went ahead and did it. Which is super cool, mine sends me to x-mart with the darn list and I have to do it.

I'm very proud to announce that my lil bro has finished his first day of bike commuting to school! Now my mum only has to worry about bringing my littlest sister to school in the car, as the other three of us have our own green transportation systems (bus, bike, walk or combination thereof).
