Great Lakes - 2008 Psimet Invitational Poll...uh-oh...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

OK...I have the Psimet invitational listed as being on the 27th of September, but none of us have really been talking about it. I have kind of been getting a feeling that not too many people are interested in doing it.
To top it off there is a race series "Fall Fling" put on both days that weekend and the following weekend for the series. I really want to do the series because it is the last bit of "real" racing left on the calendar that I can see.
So....where does that leave the Psimet invitational? I'd be willing to either move it up a weekend, back 2 weekends, put it at another date, or call it off for this year if there is lack of interest.
I will leave this out here for a little while. Not meant as an open discussion for changing the ride, etc....just the timing.
EDIT: The poll is public and you can pick more than one option depending on what works for you. Sorry for the hassle and thanks again for chiming in.

I'll be running the Chicago Marathon on the 12th so the 11th and 12th are no good for me.
Nobody is talking about it because nobody is posting about it. ;)
I'm in anytime other than the 27th or 28th, just tell me when.

Vote for the days you can do it. We'll see how it all levels out.
Right now I can do any of the days . . . but work has this nasty habit of sneaking up on me . . .

Don't know if you remember the setup, but there are progressive routes allowing you to join in later in the day for shorter routes (when everyone else has some mileage in their legs). Also I plan on trying to have at least 2 speed groups with designated leader/sweepers.

see!!... told ya you're a swell egg:thumb:
I will see what the vote comes to. I don't have many plans after Labor Day... except to start my winter quilting... you know I do have a soft side:roflmao2: If the day fits, I can drive up. If the worst happens, I'll have my 6 pack of BudLight and hang with your wife:D... we girls always have things to talk about :)
with designated leader/sweepers.
If I make it, that'll be me . . . although it will be more because I'm just that far off the back

Sept. 21st is also Blood Sweat and Tears ride in Barrington, which I know little about (25/45/62 $35)
Sept. 27-Ride Like an Egyptian in Dekalb
Oct. 11-Leaf Peepers Tour in Elizabeth ($20)
OCt. 12-Richmond Associated Firefighters Fall Fifty ($20?)
I'm sure I'm not doing all of them...but I can wish.
I officially voted for Oct. 11th. After I did that I realized I could/would do Sept.21. (Sat. the 20th is spousal B-day celebration in all likelihood)

Last year's thread should explain a lot of that. I have no official thread for this year yet.

I voted 10/12 because I'm heartless and just don't care about your flight! Sleep through it!
Sundays always work better for me though really. Though whatever you pick I will try to make.
Except I plan on doing the North Shore, likely plenty of others will too.

ahem, i would go BUT i am new to cycling and not sure i can keep up with you guys, my best and not so well kept beyond a few minutes pedaling is 23 mph and i either get tired of think i am too weak after a few minutes or so, so bad for me, perhaps a bit of peer pressure or something could make me think better of it.
I have seen your mph and others high average and i am like crazy impressed.
Oh well.

a fast BFNIC century this year would likely end with a 20 mph average. some slower, some faster. most of us have not ridden too many centuries this year, but we managed 20 mph at the Udder back June. if you can handle 16 to 18 solo you can hang with us. plus, Psi is doing some facny no drop multiple group thing this year. later.
Anytime but Sep 20/21,my brothers getting married on sat the 20th.

I am going to see what i can do as far as this ride event. My speed is above 18mph every time and sometimes faster but it doesn't go down below 17 or high 16 unless the cateye compu is kidding, hehe.
Will update you all folks on my plans regarding this. So far it is for the 20/21 as i fly to Miami, for work, on the 22nd.
UPDATE: I chose the 20th!
Thanks all!

I will spell out details regarding the format later. If you're even remotely interested then select a date. If you feel it's too much late then you can always back out. The rollcall above is not for committments but rather preferences.
Then again if everyone chooses 1 day and we make it that day and no one shows....I'll be
Same place as last year? I might make this my first BFNIC ride of the year. Will we be having Cheese Wiz again in between legs? The homemade cookies were pretty good as well.

I don't know how I feel about eating cheese wiz from between ANYONE's legs.
So far it will be in the same location with the same route. Don't know if I have enough time to validate a new route.

Your mileage could come up if you just accepted that it's OK to be a "poor father" like me ;)
Still it is strange when you son starts calling you by your name instead of "dad", and begins to refer to the next door neighbor as "dad".

Ouch.. None of those dates look good for me. With weekends off in three month blocks, the wife fills them quickly. In October I go back to working weekends. If anything, the 27th or 28th works best for me but I need to find kid care since wifey is away with her sisters that weekend.

Also...if anyone knows how to get ahold of Rowdy outside of here you might want to drop him a line about checking this out. he contacted me about the dates about a week or so ago and I just sent him a PM about this thread. He was still interested in coming, but I don't think he's spending too much time on here anymore.

If you can help a brother out. I have to be in Elburn around 11am on the 20th for a wedding reception. So if you could make a route near there would be fantastic !!! :thumb: JK

Rowdy is actually at a training class in St. Charles all week. Ive bumped into him numerous times. But I'm off today. I have a call into one of the guys up there to get him my cell number with instructions to call me later. He is alive and well but busy with life off the bike currently. I'll hopefully speak with him in a little bit.
I myself wont be able to attend the 20th as I must travel to beautiful Pike County IL to work on my deer hunting property for bow season.

It's out of Hampshire and loop 3 is as close as we get to Elburn. You could definitely hit leg 1 and still be in Elburn by 11 though...maybe...:D
