Charity Events - Wounded Warrior Unity Ride

I am not the in charge of this ride but I have yet to see anything on BF about this yet. On 27 & 28 September, there is a ride from Ft. Eustis in Newport News, VA to Walter Reed Hospital in DC to Raise money for the Wounded Soldiers Coming back from Iraq. It's only $30 to get in and I am posting the Website below for more information. I know the guy who is doing this so if you can't get an answer from the website let me know and I'll ask him.

Thanks for the link! I'm not finding much info on the actual ride or a registration form. Is there any other information about lodging, etc.?

We're stationed at an Army post and it would help to have a link with more information to pass along to others who might be interested.

I think this ride is limited to 150 participants and I'll bet it's closed by now.

I was wrong, there are still slots available, but now there is one less.

I was awake most of the night thinking about the 20 miles of climbing on the second day and think it is beyond my ability considering the pace groups. It looks like a good ride for a great cause and I'd hate to waste a space.

I'll talk to the SFC Saturday and see what he says about the pace groups, I ave been getting similar questions from some interested folks on my ship. I'll repost Saturday afternoon

The ride is scheduled to be broken up into an A and a B group. From talking to some people involved, it looks like they are going to stick to those paces. I know there are already more then a 100 riders, but there is no limit so the more the better!! Also, they are still in need of Volunteers to setup at rest stops and drive vehicles.

I found out that there was a limit and it is now closed. I'll post a link to some pictures when we are done.

I n response to your question, from what I can tell this event was a Army driven event by a few army soldiers at Ft Eustis in Newport News, Va. This is only the second year that this area has done this type of event, Last year there was only 21 people involved in the ride, this year it was over a hundred riders.

I do not think there is any other event quite like this in the country, but the armed forces cycling website would be a good place to start, a second site would be the wounded warriors project although from what I can tell they were not that involved in this particular event. If you can get a hold of the event organizer (through the AFCA website) they may be able to get a hold of some local army cyclists on the west coast so that something may be able to happen on the west coast.

The ride here in VA was great although there were times my old retired Navy fat butt struggled at times, nor was I as fast or fit as the fast guys but I thouroughly enjoyed the ride and it was by far the most satisyfying knowing that the money I raised was going to a very worthy cause.
