Bicycle Mechanics - tires for straight side rims

i have a pair of SS rims that came with an old Shogun i picked up. what sort of tires will work with these?

i saw this (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=149977&highlight=side+straight) from way back but as there was only one reply, i thought i'd bring the topic up again, see if anyone else has some ideas.

I believe you can use any wire-beaded tire, you just can't inflate them to the pressure on the sidewall. Folding tires won't work, as mentioned in the other thread.

yes, 27", i'm 99.9% sure. from a road bike.

I have a set of 1 1/4 Cyclepro Discovery Kevlar belted, wire bead tires from the LBS. They have the skinwall look, but it's not really a skinwall, just tan colored rubber. It looks correct, anyway. I have unhooked rims, and put about 75 psi in them. They are fairly heavy, but sturdy. I run them over manhole covers and rough roads that I would avoid with my other road bike.

I didn't get 1 1/8 because it appears that they need too high pressure and may come off the rims.

My wife's old Shogun uses 27 X 1 1/4, inflated to full sidewall pressure on whatever tire happens to be on it. Never had one blow off. She doesn't watch for anything........ I've had 1 1/8 with 110# in them without issue, but the rims are actually marked for 1 1/4. I always make sure the tire is centered on the rim before inflating it, by looking at the mold/rim marks.

With 27 x 1 1/4 tires (equivalent to 32mm) 75 or 80 psi is plenty. My tire's sidewalls say "inflate to 100 psi max" but that would be way too hard.
