My grandfather was sharp as a tack well until his mid-80s. It was the huge garden that he planted every year, I'm convinced.

Physical Fitness May Protect Aging Brain
By Merritt McKinney

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Being physically fit may be good for the aging brain, researchers report.

In a new study of older adults, higher levels of physical fitness were associated with improved mental abilities.

Sounds logical to me. I also remember a study of rats showing that rats which ran on exercise wheels performed markedly better on intelligence tests than those which had no exercise.

What people seem to forget is that the brain is a physical organ which functions best when the whole body is healthy.

Sounds to me like you're trying to say that there is some weird mind/body connection or something. Who'd a thunk it?
