Hey, What do you guys think the top news was from this weekend?

1) My escaping from the house with the fixie for my still-verboten first post-collarbone ride. No crashes.

2) Schiek and I find a swap meet deep in suburban Maryland - only have to ask directions once.

3) Schiek contemplates buying a yellow slingshot frame for $125, then decides he wants a K2 cyclocross bike for $300. He gets permission from wife only to find out both have already sold.

4) We find a 650c Carbon Zipp disk on a track hub for $50. Neither of us buys this true fixie bling.

i'm sure i'd find said bit of bling a good home. [i'd need a new frame first though. not a tragedy. more of an opportunity]

What's a slingshot frame? 650c front wheel, 700c rear?

Originals came with 650c front and back. The new designs use 700c's all around. In taking with them a few months back, I think they still sell the 650c version with tri angles.

They are really quick bikes. I have one of the old ones with 650's and I'm running it as a fixed. A freakin rocket.

Slingshots were pretty high-speed tri bikes in the mid 90s. Here's a shot of Auk's slingshot (from the fixie photo section). Yes, that's a wire where the down tube should be. Probably okay when you weigh 150, but when you're pushing 200... looks like a recipe for disaster.

Otherwise, we had a great adventure. I picked up shimano and TNT bottom brackets, a salsa stem and profile bullhorns for $5 each.

Schiek is probably the best (and most cheaply) dressed fixie rider in DC this week.

Plans to sell my "what would Marco do" bracelets had to be scrapped at the last minute. Now we have yet another great rider we must tip our 40s to.
