At least for todays commute to school. It was texts, though. ;) Man, I did the bike commute today and got home and fell asleep right after dinner. I used a backpack from North Face for the books, since the Allez has no racks or anything, and the Schwinn has the rear wheel in the shop. Well, it was blasted heavy, so when I got home tonight, I weighed the backpack and it came in at 48.7 pounds. No wonder I needed a wee nap.
Sorry about the title, but I couldn't resist. ;) :innocent:

I did something similar when grocery shopping one day. Too many sale items kind of "multiplied" on me and I ended up packing 52 lbs. home! NEVER again! I had stuff hanging off the bars, swinging in the breeze steering me. Those harmonics get NASTY! Totally unsafe.
Now my absolute (rare) limit is 36 lbs. aka 4-12 packs of soda. 32 cans in the backpack and 16 strung BETWEEN the bars. Usual load is <25. Two lighter trips is much easier/safer.

Working on my next step in the chain of degrees. ;) Last Summer was the Assoc Sci. Now it's still psych, finishing up my Bachelors, now at Purdue, and taking Grad classes as well early.

You forget "Grasshopper", I have done fully loaded touring, both with panniers and racks, as well as a trailer.. ;)

Once you have tasted the sweetness of a steel touring bike with big ole panniers and a rack, you shall never go back to a sweaty back!

I swear, I kill me :).

Anyway, I remember those days last year. And I'm sooo glad I'm not doing it again. 50lbs on the rack in panniers/in a basket is sooo much better than 50 on the back. Only time I'll feel it is on a hill, otherwise it's like buttah.

Wonder what you would think of riders in Bolivia. Imagine this, your standing on the pedals of an old one speed with coaster brakes and balloon tires, your wife is sitting on the saddle behind you, holding onto you, the 4 year old twins are sitting on the rear rack, holding onto your wife, and your 8 year old is sitting on the handle bars.....

I have a steel framed, touring bike with a rack and panniers, but a bad wheel......

It'll be up and running again soon as my replacement wheel is built and that's waiting on funding. :p

This seems to be turning into another look-what-this-guy-hauled thread. I'm not complaining, mind you.:innocent:
