I may have phrased the thread name wrong- if so sorry. I'm quite new to the workings of a bike so I do not really know so much. A few weeks back I purchased a frame not knowing too many details of it(none were provided and the seller didn't answer the questions). So I received the frame hoping to build it up- but lacked some info. I didn't know what size fork/headset it required! Of course I did as much research and measuring as I could with the supplies I had(basically a ruler). At first I thought the frame took a 1 1/8" fork because the diameter of the opening was 1 3/16"(or so) but thought, "damn that would make a REALLY tight fit for the fork even without the headset in there!". Did a bit more researching and my measurements seemed to match up with a 1" headset/fork- can anyone confirm/deny this thought?

the inter diameter of your head tube should be 1/100" larger than the lip's outer diameter of the cup/race than will be press in to it. bigger the tube , bigger the cups will be. therefore the wider the steering tube will be. the best tool to use here would be calipers and measure the opening in 4 points and take the adv. of them.

At the bottom is a list of dimensions to measure in determining headset sizing. Having the right tools to measure headset dimensions is critical. For just $2, you can pick up a set of calipers that'll let you determine the difference between 30.2 vs. 30mm and 26.4mm vs. 27.0mm.
