Hey, was just curious what anyone thought of regional section - like, by state or region (ie, northeast, northwest, etc)... not sure what would get posted there.. but might be interesting? Just a thought.

That's a cool idea. It's nice discussing stuff here on the Forums but it would be great if there were regional forums too where riders can talk about things specific to their area.
I'd like to see regional forums as well. I've been wanting a place to share local routes and rides that would be nearly useless for people out of the area.
Maybe Joe should start thinking about a turning BikeForums into a national/international club with local chapters. :D

You know you could always search for members by their location and get in touch with the ones in your area via PM.

What's the fun in that though?

That's how I do it.
We already have enough forums and subforums.

I searched for members in CA and came up with 31 pages, at 30 members a page that is at least 900 members in California. So are you suggesting that if I wanted to plan a group road ride for Forum members in SoCal I should PM all 900 of them......many of whom may not be in southern California or may no longer be active? Some people just list a state, how do I know if they are in my area?
The beauty of Forums is that you can skip the ones you are not interested in. Would you prefer to receive unsolicited PMs from anyone who felt like sending you a message about something related to your region?

Then why not go into the road forum and make a post with a header along the line of "attention so cal members". I am sure it would be read and replied to.

What would likely happen would be several rather dead forums, with little use.
We started the "Recreational and Family Forum" about a year ago. The net result is that hardly anyone reads it, and if you really want folks to see your message, you end up posting it in one of the more active forums anyway.
Simply giving a title of "Attn: Iowa area riders" in the appropriate forum will do the job.

That is actually what did happen when the regional forums idea was originally tried (back in 2000 I believe). Hence the idea was canned. In anycase, I don't think it's really a major problem. One can easily see the location of anybody who's taken the time to fill out their profiles (would those that have not necessarily respond to a regional forum anyway?), and as suggested by others, it's just as easy to post a thread asking "any riders from Location X" in the appropriate forum.
