Mountain Biking - Building an MTB pump track in my back yard

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a modest sized backyard here in SW Florida. I had read an article a couple years ago about people building pump tracks in their backyards for when they couldn't make it to the trails (which for me is quite often and few trails). Have any of you all built one? Did you buy dirt? What kind?

Lucky you. Here's a great source for pump track construction: http://www.leelikesbikes.com/WTPTN/WTPTNindex.html

 Oh, that is so sweet! My back yard is almost 50' wide, and I could make an extension by the garage so I could have up to 65' depth. If I open both side gates and and a skinny to go up the stairs... OMFGHI2U!!!! :twitchy:

Mine is 300' x 100' and there is slope where the property was built up. Here is a corner of the yard.

^^Looks like you have (comparatively) plenty of space to work with. The guys at RST's headquarters in Portland, OR have one in their little city-lot back yard at their rental-house/offices:

Another North Portland pump-track on a bit larger scale:

The only other concern I have is Florida dirt, AKA sand. I will probably have to buy a load of dirt to build.

You should start it where the rainbow ends.
^^ I'd be careful about that . . .
