Bicycle Mechanics - 1992 Viner Frame Questions

I just purchased a NOS 1992 Viner steel frame. Call it irrational affection about Italian Steel Frames.

I haven't recieved it yet and am attempting to create a plan to aquire necessary parts to move components from a Trek 1500 to the Viner.

I have another bike to ride and want to build up the Viner myself. From the questions it will be obvious that I am not a bike mechanic but I doing maintance on the bikes I have now.

Some questions:

Does this frame use a down pull FD?

Will I need to purchase a different FD to use with the braze on FD tab?

It has adustment screws in the rear droputs? I assume these are from micro-adjusting the chain tension. Why?

The bosses on the front tubes look like they are for friction shifters. I am going to use STIs group set from another bike. Anything I should know about buying a conversion kit so that I can install bosses on the down tubes for the shift cables?

There appears to be a bulge or ring (see photo) around the steerer tube about 1" above the headset. Anyone know what this might be?

I, too, have recently acquired a '90's lugged steel Italian frame and fork, mine is a '96 Pinarello. I've got the hots for Italian steel, what can I say? Congratulations on the Viner, that should be a wonderful bike.

I'm putting a modern Campy group on mine, I gotta go all Italian on this one.

The frame will use a braze-on front derailleur, which will be bottom pull. The bottom bracket shell will be Italian threaded, 70mm wide (saw your question in C and V). The adjustment screws in the dropouts are primarily for micro-adjusting wheel alignment, and everything will work best if you set it up so that the axle is towards the forward end of the dropouts. For the downtube braze-ons, you will put cable stops/barrel adjusters there, this will work fine with the STI shifters-

I wish I could go Campy on this bike to keep it with Italian tradition. I just can't afford it right now. I have an entire Shimano group set on the Trek 1500 with only a couple of hundred miles on it. I purchased the 1500 for my daughter, in an unsuccessful attempt to get her into cycling.

Well... thats an old frame, back in the day u were able to fit any rear wheel in there (untill brifters came out), and as makes sense not all the hubs are equal, someimtes wheels were more dished to the left or to the right, thats why u needed to center the wheel by hand or use those little thingys to keep them centered all the time, to adjust the wheel in the center of the chain stays (not in the brake bridge area).

Now a days with carbon bikes and shimaNO or campy setups is not needed anymore (persay). All the shimano wheels will be dished equal eventhought have different brands, with campy is the same thing.

Just in case shimano and campy dishing have a little difference between them.

The dropout adjustment screws aren't really necessary, but they give you a guide for aligning the wheel in the frame and positioning the axle in the dropout. With horizontal dropouts, once you put a wheel in there, I think it will be obvious what they're for.
