Hi,
I have been lurking in the forums for a few months... now it's time to come out!
For the past 4 months I have been riding my bike to work and although I could have chosen a better season to start, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I ride 9 miles to work each way, and I love that my commute takes me over the Brooklyn bridge twice a day. Since I started, I have saved close to $300 in gas and tolls, while riding close to 1000K (650 Miles).

This winter has been quite cold, lot of ice, snow and wind (why does it always seem to be head and never tail wind ?!?!), but I am seeing my way through it. There were days I was the only biker on the west side highway... it looks less and less deserted as the temperature rises.

These forums have provided me a lot of tools and the inspiration to keep going: finding the right clothes to wear, gear advice, nutrition, coupons.... its all there if you have the patience to look for it. It helped go from riding an old POS mountain bike with cotton T-shirts and blue jeans to a hybrid, polypros and tights in under 4 months... not bad ;)

So... thanks for all the advices, I will try to participate a bit more now that I have gone over my shyness...

You NYC bikers, are tough, and an inspiration to me. I have to confront cold weather, but not the crazy taxi and car drivers that are everywhere in New York. I'm glad you have fun. It would be interesting to read posts from you about your experiences.

We've got close to 100oF weather down here... At least with the cold you can dress for it. Hot weather on the other hand you can try going nude but the chafing is terrible!
