today I took the North Bend rail trail and made it as far as Clarksburg (some of that trail is pretty wild, btw--tunnels are SPOOKY! :-p ).
On the way between Athens, OH and the Ohio River, I used some sections of US50 and it was just fine--anybody with experience on that road east of Clarksburg? My map makes it look like it becomes 2-lane.
I'm headed toward Frederick, MD, btw.
I know about the C&O towpath, and am not convinced it would be worth the extra mileage to get up to it. I'm willing to be convinced, though...it's just that sometimes those multi-use trails are pretty boring.
