Hey I'm new here..

I'm moving to Medford from a pretty bike friendly city (Austin, Texas), and I have a job in Boston. I'm used to riding 15-20 miles a day, but under much more bike friendly conditions. How hard is the commute from Medford to Boston? Does anyone on here do it?

Rt. 28 will take you from Medford to Boston, ending at Storrow Drive...from which you can get most anywhere. There is plenty of traffic, but I've ridden this route without any issues. I believe its only 8 miles or so to get in town. So long as you don't work in Southie, you shouldn't have any problems with the distance.

I regularly commute from Melrose to the WTC in Boston. 10 miles each way in about 40 minutes. I go through Malden, Everett and Charlestown. Depending on where you are in Medford, you could ride through Sommerville and Cambridge to get into Boston. It also depends where in Boston you need to end up. A little more info would help us direct you to a better route.

From Medford (locally known as Meffa or Mehfid) to Boston is pretty dependent upon where in Medford you are, and where in Boston you are looking to go.

But it is not many miles, your bike commute will probably be 30-40 minutes one way.

One route with on-street bike paths could take you down Beacon Street in Somerville to Hampshire Street in Cambridge to the Longfellow Bridge to Boston.

Thanks so much for the responses guys
sadly, **** fell apart with my room mate in medford, and I'm now moving to Mission Hill.. which brings up a whole new batch of potential problems..
I started a new thread about it, but as long as there are people looking here I might as well ask some questions..
I know that Mission Hill is next to a pretty bad housing project, and that it's not the safest area, but how unsafe is it? Would I be safe riding home from work at 2,3, or 4 in the morning. thanks again for responding. let me know if you have any knowledge of the area after dark
