I haven't posted on the long distance forum before but realized that my ride report from this years D2R2 might be of some interest. I think I may be hooked on long distance riding though! I had a great (although somewhat painful) time!

I posted the report in the Clydesdale forum.

Great ride report. Funny how we noticed so many of the same things.

You spoke of the 2 ghostly horses watching curiously, which I described as "A pair of pale stallions watched curiously as we rode out of the gossamer fog..."

The whole ride was truly an other worldly experience. Maybe because I'd only had an hour of sleep the night before but it did have a dream-like aspect.

I'm about to set out on a 20 miler with a 1 mile climb with a 12% grade on average and sections of 16-18%.(paved)

I'm curious how it's going to feel after the D2R2's full day of riding on even more challenging ascents.

We'll see how much I've recovered.;)

Yeah the white horses in that fog were a sight for sure.

I don't think the one hour of sleep had much to do with it. I had a good 6 or 7 hours and it still all seemed pretty dream-like to me too.

I was walking past Summit Avenue in Brookline last night (which is what passes for a hill around here) and it looked pretty wimpy in comparison... I should go ride up and down it a few times. ;)
