I'm looking for a new singlespeed clincher wheelset. I want to be able to race and train on this bike as well as put some slicks on it for some winter training.
My local shop recommended surly hubs to a velocity dyad rim. Any other combinations I should be looking for that are in a similar price range?
The only other options in that price range are inexpensive track hubs, like formula or dimension. I was originally going to go for surly hubs on my rob roy but realized the chainline with a 120mm track hub is a lot easier to get with a lot more combo's of cranks than the chainline on a surly 130mm hub, and the wheel isn't going to be super-significantly stronger with a surly hub, so why spend the extra $$?
I ended up going with an old suntour xc pro greasguard freewheel hub I had- not quite as wide between the flanges as a track hub, but the dish will be better than on a cassette wheel, and people of course race on cassette wheels, so I don't see there being a problem.
