Sun Valley, ID, August 26, 2008 — SCOTT Bicycles announced today that it will discontinue the sponsorship of the SCOTT-American Beef cycling team for the 2009 season.

“SCOTT has been a partner with Mauro Gianetti’s team since the beginning in 2004. In all the past years the team could celebrate some remarkable victories. We would like to thank the team for the cooperation in the past years and we wish the team and new sponsors all the best for the future.”

-Pascal Ducrot VP Scott Sports SA

So, for those of you who need a sponsor for your team, start writing a letter/email.

It's either you, or Team Columbia that gets them.

and colnago?

Colnago = GTFO.

They are happy with Milram, Tinkoff, Landbouwkrediet and the Skil-Shimano development team. They don't have the market presence necessary to sponsor 4 or 5 teams any more.

Yep (http://www.velonews.com/article/82382/rabobank-team-to-ride-giant-bicycles-for-the-2009-season).

heads up!

Would it be unprecedented for Giant to do both Rabobank and Team Columbia?

Yes.

For major teams, they've sponsored ONCE, T-Mobile/Highroad/Colombia and now Rabobank.

Something has to give, and it's going to be Columbia.

For once, I agree with BananaTugger.

With Giant picking up Colnago and Scott dropping American Beef I think we'll see Columbia on Scott's next year.

What does that have to do with anything?

American Beef is a Mexican company that sounds like it's from America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americas).

Yeah, I get it America is North and South America, 99.9% of the people on here know that, I realize your need to feel educated and informed, but it comes across as condesending. If you don't understand how people will associate that with the US let me help you out.

From Mexico = Mexican
From Austria = Austrian

From the USA = ?

I'm going to go with american, but I'm am sure someone will come up with something witty.

What does this mean, does american mean from Canada, the US, Mexico. It's so confusing, if only the person who posted this could have been more specific. ;)

Given how Columbia has easily been the most impressive cycling team this year, I find it hard to see why Giant would stop sponsoring them.. But if it happens, I am guessing there will be a bit of a bidding war no?

I can see some hawt four way action between Scott, Specialized, Cervelo and Giant to see who gets Saxo Bank and Columbia in the future.

Cervelo is going to end up somewhere.

I think we may see a bunch of Gerolsteiner and Barloworld dudes migrating to a Cervelo supplied team funded by another insurance company or something.

Perhaps even a title sponsorship like Cervelo-Lifeforce (http://www.cervelo-lifeforce.com/eng_ENG.html).

i like it when a guy from new york tries to tell a guy from canada that they are both americans. hmmmm.

i appreciate the non u.s.-centric viewpoint, but the fact is that america is synonymous with the u.s. today. sorry. i suppose you think that the company chose american beef as their name because they assumed that the world knew that america meant the entire continents of north and south america. it wasn't attempting to associate itself with u.s. beef at all. nope, not at all.

Actually I think the one for the ISS is way cooler. It is two arms that walk over themselves and will be used to build the station and do most of the outside work.

Google it. It's pretty cool.

Bikes are only a small part of the sponsorship equation.

Money is almost the only part if you were to weigh the parts on importance to the team owner and managers.

Scott, Specialized, Cervelo and Giant have a crapload of cash that is allocated to fund their premier teams. Litespeed may have some cash in the jar as well, but probably no where near what the others have to offer.

Perhaps even a title sponsorship like Cervelo-Lifeforce (http://www.cervelo-lifeforce.com/eng_ENG.html).

They're calling it the "Test Team," and by the sounds of how they're describing it, products/brands first, this team will be more concerned about testing their products rather than winning races.
