Winter Cycling - will a 700x35 fit a road bike rim?

I have wheels from a trek 1500 (Bontraiger selects) on my trek 7.5fx. I plan On making it a winter bike with some studded tires and fenders. I am not sure if the tire will fit properly and wondered what others have found out or are using.

Yes, it'll fit no problem. I use the Bontrager Select (Road) Disc wheels on my Portland.

It might not clear the fork or rear, even if it fits your rims.

The tires will fit the bike frame and brakes as it is a hybrid with road bike wheels (warranty problem long story). I plan on putting some HAKKAPELIITTA W106 in a 700x35, and then throwing on some planet bike hardcore hybrid fenders.

Any opinions or suggestions welcome. I live in Northern Michigan we average 180" of snow a year and I would be riding on the road when possible.

I ride the Nokian W106 on road rims. No problem. Since you get so much snow, my advice is to understand that studs don't do much to help in snow. But on ice and hardpack they are magic.

I have not made the purchase yet, and have changed my mind. I am now thinking the nokian w240 700x40 and some sks p50 fenders. I live above my business so commuting consist of walking down the stairs. I will be riding for fun and as an alternative to the rollers. I live next to a 18,000 acre lake that I think I will do most of my riding on.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

the W106 has studs to keep you from falling off your bike when you hit ice, but the main advantage it has is the soft rubber compound and highly aggressive tread pattern for snow, slush and mud.

with 700x40mm tyres, they might roll off the rim if you use bontrager selects.
least you want to run is a 19mm wide rim for 40mm, which are usually heavier tandem and 29'er type rims like mavic A319.
