Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking for a while and decided to register so I can continue learning. I'm a 43-year-old mom of 14- and 11-year old kids. I've enjoyed mountain biking since moving to Colorado in 1988, although my rides have been a lot tamer in recent years now that I'm trying to get my kids into it.

I borrowed my sister's ~1988 Centurion Sport road bike a few years ago to use in my one and only triathlon (sprint distance), and when she upgraded to a tri bike, she gave me the Centurion. I recently gave it some new tires, a taller stem, and a rack to make it a commuter, which my husband and I take turns riding to work (I get first dibs--loser has to ride a mountain bike to work).

Our current mountain bikes are Giant hard tails, but we still have our old 1988 chromoly Jamis Diablo mountain bikes, which we're thinking of converting to commuter/touring bikes. Glad we hung onto them all of these years now that I've read about how much people enjoy using them for touring.

My 14-year-old daughter gets around on a Trek 8000 (or is it 800?) mountain bike, but yearns for a "cool looking" cruiser bike.

My 11-year-old son rides a 24" wheel Trek mountain bike (can't remember the model) and a Novarra BMX style bike. He loves catching air and thinks that owning a few pieces of biking clothing makes riding more fun.

Since our daughter has never warmed up to mountain biking, in a few weekends we'll rent a pair of tandems for the first time to give them a taste of road riding, which may eventually lead to a bike tour family vacation.

That's it for now. I've enjoyed browsing the forums on here.

Welcome, mutermom. Glad to hear you trying to get your kiddos on the bike as well. Keep it up!

Hey mutermom, we have an ongoing thread in Classic & Vintage for Centurions--perhaps you would like to add some info there? At least a photo ;) ?

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !
