Theyll be back up soon enough. I finally bought ten gallons last week after running the same tank since August. Will see if I can make it to November before adding ten more.

Odd, the stations in my area are still at around $3.79. Which is what I would have guessed the price was.
There are some in town in the $3.59 range, with a small handful less than that.

I seem to vaguely remember a news story recently talking about how NC, and Raleigh in particular, are considerably higher than the rest of the country. Apparently that's correct if the posted chart is accurate.

I'll admit that it's nice that I've stopped paying attention to the price of gas. I guess trying not to lose my shirt in the market is enough of a diversion

The chart was right; yours can be found at: http://www.raleighgasprices.com/

As far the stock market, perhaps we can let Uke comfort us with his predictions that price drops are just a prelude to, and a sure indicator of, increases in the future.

... going to a wedding in Des Moines, 400 miles/7 hours R/T on Saturday/Sunday. This will be my first fill up in months. One tankful will cover it. About $35 for $2.80/gallon for 100% gasoline (10 cents/gal more than rock bottom 10% ethanol) should cover fuel costs at the average 32 mpg on our Sentra at 65 mph with the A/C running.

Actually the trip cost less since the price of 100% gasoline dropped by 20 more cents since Friday to $2.60 today. I refilled the tank upon my return and the gas cost was $34. Mileage was only 30.7 mpg but that is probably because the speed limit for half the trip was 70 mph, not the 65 mph that it was last time I drove that way.

Gas is $2.90 where I live and it sucks! I've had 3 people yell at me, saying that I can get off my bike because the gas crisis is over.

For those familiar with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, they know how to solve the gas crisis.

Gas prices have dropped here too!! WooHoo!! :D It would be wonderful if they would keep going down over the next year or so.

All I know is that if the price of gas drops below $2.50/gallon, I might have to drop out of the bikeforums.net - move on to SUVforums.net

My theory derived from absolutely zero research and limited knowledge: people panic, withdraw money from mutuals and hedges, fund managers and speculators sell, prices lower.

I think, on the whole, it is unfortunate that gas prices are down. It seemed folks were finally starting to consider new options.

Meanwhile, Peak Oil isn't going anywhere. The real catalyst will come when more shortages ala Atlanta finally beat us over the head enough that we realize the game is truly over. Then we will finally see what a terrible idea suburbia was. Lower prices, I'm almost positive, will only speed up the process and make it more chaotic.

Heh. You'll see me on Hummerforums.net. Decadence just became affordable again!

That's the part that I don't get. Even if gas dropped to $2/gal, I wouldn't feel like I should run out and get a car that got 12mpg. I paid $2.89/gal to fill up my 36mpg car and it still seems expensive (to me).

Do Hummers get 12 mpg? I thought it was more like 8 mpg - maybe that was the older version.

Anyway, I hear they get better mileage running on dark chocolate, which was cheaper than gasoline most of this past summer.

It's down to 2.35 around here. If people WERE driving less because of prices, they'll be grabbing the gas right back up; it won't stay low long.

Gas prices should go up soon... eventually, since OPEC cut crude production by 1.5 million barrels daily. However, after the news was announced, the ppb still declined on Friday.

We will have to see about that. The oil profit model is presently based on volume.

I don't think OPEC or the oil refiner/sellers had anticipated this drastic or immediate drop in demand. Demand for gasoline is off 10% over this time last year. That is astronomical conservation.

When OPEC pulled their shenanigans in the mid 1970's, conservation, fuel efficient cars, bicycling, etcetera had driven demand down so much by 1980 that oil prices crashed. It took nearly 20 years for oil prices to recover.

I think OPEC knows that jacking prices isn't good for demand. I am confident that the USA can reduce petrol consumption at least 35% without even feeling any pain just through conservation and without any radical new technology.

My car already gets 12mpg, and it's hardly new. Fortunately, I put more miles on the bike than I do on the car per week, but it's still annoying. Be happy with your 36mpg vehicle; I'd love that kind of mileage. :D

This is why I have a lot more reasons than just "gas prices" to stay on the bike. Freedom (don't have to pay insurance or maintenance on my car), health, the ability to feel as if I haven't wasted a trip if they send me home from work early.

Gas prices ARE down, but it'd be nice if they stayed down, or even got lower. I understand that they're not where they were in 2002 or 2003, but when you've just come off of a summer of paying $4.20/gallon (the one time I did fill up this summer), $2.17/gallon certainly seems nice.

OPEC is also tryna get paid. Who knows if they will learn from what happened 30-40 years ago...
