Commuting - Daylight only commuters, started yet?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I only commute when there's enough daylight for me to make it to work and back without lights.

In the eastern part of the Central Time zone it's finally daylight enough for me to ride to work and back.

It's great to be riding to work again.

Today was my first commute of the year too. I think the weather is finally warm enough and the shines long enough to get me home in the evening. I took an hour to ride my 10 miles home tonight, just taking in the sights I have been missing for a few months now!

I've been on and off with the night commuting to be honest, maybe twice a week, then I'll drive, but now I can do it daily

Man, ya'll are missing the good stuff. Since I leave my house at about 5 AM I commute 40 minutes in the dark year round. At 5 AM there is NO traffic. With my new home-brewed light system I light up the night. Of course I do have the luxury of extra bikes so my commuters get good lights while the road bikes stay minimal.

Man, this is a neat idea for a thread!

(Hey, tho, I'm with Raymond--this morning I left 10 minutes later than usual and to my dismay, it was no longer dark! )

Since I work 6:30-3:30 I'm still riding in the dark on the way in to work but I always ride home in daylight. Morning traffic is nil & tolerable in the afternoon.

Riding my 'lightless' road bike for the 1st time tomorrow! A quick way to loose 10 pounds.

Thanks for the tip Corsaire, but for those that may have missed the humor, the 10 pounds in this equation is the difference between my 34 pound mtb (winter commuter) and my 24 pound road bike (summer commuter).

Yep, got back on the commute wagon this week. Sure helps to beat the February blues. 42 kms round trip, although a bit chilly in Toronto.

I hated it in November, and now I was actually disappointed this morning at how light it was when I left for work.

I work from 7:30am to 4:15pm, I still need my lights in the morning but I don't on the way home.

I've started seeing other bicyclists on the bike path for the first time in a very long time. I miss having the place to myself. And as much as I like riding across ice on my Nokians, I look forward to riding on road slicks once winter weather has passed for good.
