Hello,
What's the average age of cyclocross racers? Is 34 too old to start getting into it? I've never raced before.
Are there any standards to use to know if you might be competitive?
Thanks.

34 is definatly not too old to get started. Start off in the Mens C races. You will race with 20 year olds as well but it is for beginners and it is a lot of fun.
Definitely not too old! I "raced" last year for the first time at 32. Bought my bike (hadn't been on one since I was in college) two weeks before the first race. Had an absolute blast!!! Can't wait for this year.
Out here (Oregon) we have the Cross Crusade Series. They do an outstanding job! Lots of categories, including a beginners category.
As far as being competitive... it all depends on your threshold for pain! You'll be riding for 40-60 min. with your heart rate at the redline! Be prepared and don't expect too much.
Mostly, have a blast!
Cheers,
JR

the men's master category is almost bigger than the seniors at quebec races. there are a whole lot of people over 40 in this sport. go for it.
