yeah, sure does seem to be a lot of more clipping and un-clipping going on for something that is clipless (maybe they should be clip-more pedals?)

Listen on a group ride after a stop- It is definitely clicking in.

I prefer terms such as "snap-in" versus "strap-in." To me, "clipless" still connotes bare pedals without toeclips or any other retention system.

So which parts of bicycle nomenclature do make logical sense to you?

Sizing frames by the easiest part of a bike to adjust? Mixing metric and english measurements? Tire and wheel sizes?

C.F.Forks-- Most of them are so heavily built that you might as well use Thick gauge gas piping to make them.

What about compact frames or compact cranks? Compact usually means small, like pocket sized?

actually, retro, there is very little in the nomenclature that is logical. i prefer terms like doohinkie, thingie, doumaflautchie, thingamabob.... and others of an equally high degree of specificity.

Since the Language Police didn't quash this "clipless pedals" things many years ago when it was first used by cyclists in the context of "pedals with foot retention mechanisms that aren't toe clips" maybe they could enforce a newly-enacted emergency rule: Thou shalt always refer to thy pedals by brand and model number, and offer up an image of thine pedals, so as to avoid confusing others.
Or, maybe pedals could be proclaimed to be: That which is not spoken of.

Methinks thou suffereth from excessive digitalistic precisionosity and appreciateth not the comeliness of generalistic pedal descriptiveness. The precise model number of thy pedals mattereth not.

Okay, as a double violator, I will commence clicking in and releasing but will not buy a set of platforms.

Sure, but clipless pedals are hardly clipless. The term comes from the lack of toeclips... perhaps a better term would be "strapless pedals."

I just bought some Speedplay pedals to replace my Campy Record Quill pedals and toe clips. Shoes were older than the guy at the bike shop that sold me the new stuff.

Tom might refer to clipless pedals as "death traps". That's how tightly they held his shoes on the pedals after he went over the cliff. Whereas my shoes come out very easily whenever I fall. :o

Clipless pedals have no toe clips. No toe clips = clipless. What's so hard about that? Of course they are also strapless. There are no clips to attach the straps.

The funny thing about the nomenclature is that 'toe clips' weren't really clips; they were just cages to hold the straps.
