Hi all,
maybe some of you know me from the Road Forum. My teen son (171 cm/94 k - 5'6"/ 207 lb) wants to start road cycling, to ride with me, and to lose weight. I'm building a bicycle for him from my spare parts bin with 36 x4 wheels and 23 clinchers. Would this work OK at 110-120 psi if he's careful of potholes, etc?

I have the same setup but with x2 wheels @ 120 psi and am heavier and have zero problems. Ride on!

Sounds like he should be OK.
I'm rideing much the same (25 clinchers) and am 360lbs down from 397.
Kudos fro getting him going!

Hi Reynolds, nice to see you over here.

The wheels should be more than fine at 207 lbs. Besides, that will be coming down soon enough!

Congrats on getting to ride with your son. I have a couple of bikes I've been trying to tempt my son into giving a shot, but so far no go.

Your son and I are the same weight and I run 23's with no issue whatsoever. I pump them up to 120psi before every ride and have yet to get a pinchie. Course I type that now and tonight I'll have a pinch flat. I wouldn't count on it though, I've hit some potholes pretty hard with the only ill effects being a bit tounge.

You have flaunted your luck in the face of the biking gods. You're doomed.

That's two members of Team Clydesdale who bite their tongue. Or three, since I'm not revealing the name of the second member. :)

If all we get is a bit tongue, then that's great! I'm more concerned with what pot-holes have done to my bike in the past such as bent rims, broken axles, broken spokes, bent seat posts, pinch flats, etc.
