Folding Bikes - 2008 Curve SL Chain Rub

Is the chain too close to the frame? Anyone with a 2008 Curve SL chain this close to the frame? It seems to rub just a little bit, but I don't want it to eat the frame as time passes. My Curve D3 has more clearance than the SL. Thank you in advance.

Wow! Something is wrong with your rear wheel because the chain does not touch the rear dropout in the brand new bike I saw at the shop! I think you suffered some chain stretch and you certainly should bring it to a bike shop.

I think the design was poor by Dahon because the OP does have a point. In the new Curve at the shop, the chain was waaaay too close to the chainstay. The OP might want to consider buying a chainstay guard.

I got a swap for another new Curve SL. This one is much better, but still a bit close to the frame. The store forgot to put the non slip washers, luckily I noticed. The bike is great and feels faster than the D3. However, it is not as comfortable due to the tires and I cannot put my granny saddle on it :p

Does anybody knows if the saddle feels better the more I use it, just like the brooks' saddles?

So you're saying the rear wheel was coming lose and sliding down the dropout? Interesting. Regardless, I'm glad the bike shop gave you a new bike. I think it's terrible that Dahon made it impossible to use a different saddle.

No, sorry for the misunderstanding. The non-slip washers were not installed on the second bike. They blamed Dahon, but whatever. At least I got a new bike that works. I think a washer inside should give more clearance. Yes, the Kore saddle is not the best and I cannot replace it with the standard ones. The Shimano Nexus is super quiet and shifts smoothly.

I'd like to know the O.L.D. of the "Dahon Special Edition" Shimano Premium Nexus 8, and what is "special" about the hub ... i.e. how is it different from the standard Nexus 8?

Saddles ...its the I beam story ... the easiset way to save a lot of weight and also to increase adjustability .... If you want to use a different saddle you either have to find a Kore I bean to rail conversion ( Which I have on order, but so far nobody ever asked for one) Or you have to replace the seatpost with any of the other 10 models which come in 34 mm ....

Washers missing from the factory.... that is highly unlikely as the hubs coming from Shimano fully assembled, meaning that somebody needed to take the washers off and than forget to re install them again ... but for argument sake ..let this be story after all..
Why the store doesnt catch that is pretty lame , and why the store has to replace a complete 1000 dlr bike, because a washer is missing is beyond me... ( somebody is paying for that nonsense)
but I digress

If your chain is rubbing, usually the wheel is crocket.... straighten it out and fasten both axle bolts

Does the Curve SL have the Red Band or the SG-8R20? The attached picture from the Dahon website shows the SG-8R20.

The hyperlink on the Dahon site describes the Premium hub as being 200g less in weight than the standard Nexus8. http://www.dahon.com/components/xl/nexus8.htm

The website calls it a "Dahon Special Edition" hub. Is there anything "special" about the hub? A different OLD, non-standard lock-nuts, lower or higher torque ratings, whatever?

I'm guessing special number of spoke holes (24 or 28) for small rims, and perhaps a Dahon silkscreen. The basics will be the same.

I was thinking along the same lines. If the pics on the site are accurate, it seems to be 36H. I was hoping it might be a narrow OLD.

No Dahon dealers in my neck of the woods... a metropolitan area of ~6 million people ... stocks more than a few of their bikes. One of the larger dealers had a 2008 Mu P24, a 2007 Curve D3, and a 2007 Jack. To purchase a Dahon around here is a modern-day version of a Sears catalog purchase out on the prairie in, say, 1906 ... with the website being the "catalog".
