Bicycle Mechanics - What are pin spanners for?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I see a lot of tool kits and see them for sale, so what exactly are pin spanners for? Thanks.

They are used for adjustable bottom brackets, high end crankset dustcaps, and the retaining rings on "one-key" release cranks (the kind that work by backing the bolt out against a ring).

And if you are really good with them, they are fair to middlin tweezers. I caught one of my punk mechanics back in the day riggin one up with a rubber band to use as a roach clip.
