I'm a newbie, not a youngster though. I'm getting back into cycling after many years' hiatus.
My 25 year-old son is a student at U of A and is heavily into bikes, mainly fixies, but loves vintage bikes, as do I. My nephew was a competitive cyclist at UNC. I gave him a vintage Schwinn frame that I was working on, Christmas of 2006.
I (actually my now ex-wife) had a Raleigh in the 70's that I loved, although it was to small for me.
She's 5'2" and I'm a foot taller. My bikes, while adequate, were pretty mundane, discount store wheels.
I just bought a "vintage Gitane Road Bike " on eBay... never had one before, but remember discussions about them back in the day. Haven't seen mine in person yet and all the seller could provide me was that it was marked "Gitane Vitus 788 light tubing". Has a new Shimano Sora rear derailleur, Simplex front, new Specialized Indie 143 saddle and new Secca BS 700x23 FPS tires w/ new inner tubes. I've read where the Soras have weak cast mountings.
I'm excited about it and am excited to have found you guys.
I'd like to know more about the Vitus tubing.
Sorry to babble, but an introduction can sometimes get out of hand.
