I'm an older guy and was into street riding 10 to 13 years ago. I have a Schwinn (Jay Miron edition) hydromatic comp frame, and a bunch of other good parts. However, I was just wondering what is up with the slammed seats, and the extreamly small front sprocket. Is there any advantage to this that us old guys knew nothing about when we were younger?

slammed seat is just out of your way, small gearing is lighter and out of the way, also giving a little more power into your pedaling.

i still have my schwinn powermatic-mag from those days! but yeah, the smaller gearing is just to have less material. the ratio is kept more or less the same as 44-16 gearing. I used to go through 44t sprockets but sinced i downsized to 36-13(not that small but good enough for me) I haven't had any problems. as for the slammed seat, what he said^^^ although i still have mine at pinching height for barspins.
