I have just received a Surly Cross-Check set up as a Fixed Gear and I am wondering what non-destructive options there are to tidy up the appearance (and protect against corrosion) of the downtube shifter bosses?

Since the bike is Fixed Gear, they are unused. The frame is brand new and under warranty, so I have absolutely no intention of grinding them off. I suspect there is some sort of rubber/plastic cap I can put over them?

I would appreciate comments.

Thanks,

Daniel.

Mount some downtube shifters.

Shimano provides a set of downtube cable adjusters that screw on over the bosses with every pair of STI or bar-end shifters and most LBS's have dozens of these things lying around as surplus. You could add a set of these to cover the bosses and remove the adjusting barrels to make a neater appearance.
