Southern California - Piru TT next weekend is on

After the road construction on Guiberson, Uncle Tren announced last night the road has been finished and the Sept. TT is going to happen finally.

Registration seems to be up on Active.com and for those that may have registered back in July before they had to cancel don't sign up again on active. Email them with your full name, cat, and phone number so they can sign you up manually. Also include whether you're doing the 40k on the 6th or the 20k on the 7th. Otherwise, if you didn't prereg back in July, sign up on Active.

Don't know how many TTers are on here that participate but I figured I'd toss the news out there just in case.

There's also the 20K TT this Sunday at Fiesta Island. Real masters and, I think, Juniors, but registration opened to the rest of us today. FI is a cool TT course so I'm heading down there this weekend.

I'll be headed down there for the Oct. 12th TT.

From my recollection, the road at Piru wasn't too bad. What did they do to it?

I think they had a bridge wash out that has now been repaired.

When we ran it back in June for the 20k, nothing was wrong. I don't know if it was something that affected the 40k route specifically or what. Jennifer just said that they had to cancel because there was some bridge washout that had to be fixed. We haven't had rain like that anywhere near the time frame of the July cancellation so I'm thinking that it WAS either the 40k route was bunged up, or they had to do some other construction nearby to fix something and it involved digging up and redoing a section of road.

My g/f lives up in Canyon Country so I could have driven there on my weekend turns up at her house to see what exactly the deal might have been but it was never really worth the gas or time to find out. I guess us I'll find out Sunday when I'm on-course.

I just only got into TTing a few months before June's Piru. I previously had done bike portions of the Bonelli trialthlons while a buddy swam and ran. So it equated to a TT for me. I've only ridden Piru once, and like any first couple times on a course, you're just trying to get the course down, shift points, etc. Yeah the rolling hills are a drag but I don't mind it when it's all said and done. I detest them like the devil when I'm doing them though! :D

I'll be interested to get out to Tom's Farm, Santiago Cyn, and Fiesta to learn those courses too since I haven't done any of them yet.

UH? The 20k and 40K are the same course. There is a small bridge just under 2 miles from the start that had some damage. The road was fine until they started making repairs to it. I think the road was fine when they were working on it. All someone would have needed to do would be to brush off some rocks and they could have had the TT's.

I know that. What I was trying to say was that perhaps it affected the road beyond 6 miles out that only the 40k-ers would have dealt with. In June, even for my first time out there, everything seemed fine to me. Obviously if I didn't notice a bridge in the first place right? lol

Both the 20K and 40K courses are exactly the same. The 20K is one (1) lap, the 40K is two (2) laps.

Thanks Cleave. Until today when I was talking with someone waiting to be called to the line I had no idea the 40k was 2 laps. I thought it was just a single out and back. Thanks for the added clarification.

Today was nice weather out in Piru. The weather stayed nice (especially if you stayed in the shadow of the big tree out front), it started a bit foggy depending on when you arrived and had burned off by the start. The heat really became apparent about halfway back to the 5 on the 126 it was like an immediate blast furnace by comparison.

For my second TT at Piru and well, ever, I found the course and starting not to be as daunting as I made it out to be my first time through back in June. =) Cut a few minutes off my time because I paced better and finished 2nd in Cat 5. I look forward to the SoCal TT series starting next month to get more experience under my belt. Today just cemented my new-found passion for TT-ing. :love:
