Hi All,

So as of last weekend I'm done with mass start races for the year. Here are some of the pertinent stats:

45 road races / criteriums / circuit races
2 of 45 were road races
20 of 45 were Tuesday evening series races (circuit)
Total of 952 miles
4 DNFs (3 too slow, 1 mechanical)
0 DFL
1-2nd place
1-3rd place
0 primes

7 time trials
Total of 99 miles
0 DNF
0 DFL
3-3rd place (including SoCal District Championship 180+ TTT)

The year could have gone better but it could also have been worse. I have a few more TTs scheduled before the end of the year.

Anyone else want to share some stats?

(BTW, stats courtesy of Garmin 305 and SportTracks.)

2 crits, 1 road race.......no where near placing in road race and sidelined one crit and finished one lap down next crit......seasons over for me (hit by car, bike died) unless insurance comes through in time for 2 stage races i have left this season.

Let's see here.
36 races/7 RR/ the rest crits or circuits
4 wins
3 seconds
3 thirds
9 other top 10's
6 DNF, mostly from crashes.
went from a 5 to a 3
probably a dozen or so primes
A little over 300 in race winnings.
still have a crit left and might throw in a few TT, as I'm finally starting to feel good again.

Says the guy who did it first. How many top 10's did you have this year? like 30?

Hahaha. No:notamused: Plus, I would have taken ONE measley win over all of the top 10's. Well, only if it had been Manhattan Beach or States. Preferrably the 'Beach. Though States would have rocked, too.

For 2008 so far...

26 races in total
10 crits
10 road races
3 ITTs
1 pair TT
1 track racing night (3 races, but I'll lump them together as one)

1 x win
1 x 2nd
3 x 3rd places

Quite a few DNFs (mostly due to whacky handicap RRs)

$450 (!) in entry fees, $200 in prize money.

Plenty of racing to come though as criterium season here starts in October (RRing is April -> Sept).

Hi,

Always nice to see a young guy get into the sport and do well. :)

It only took me 3 years to go from a 4 to a 3. :o (They didn't have Cat 5 when I started racing.) Took me another 5 or so years (making up for expired points) to be able to upgrade to Cat 2 (which I never did). :o

Of course all of this was probably going on before you were born. ;)

One RR - DNF. Shivering on a 90*F day = Bad.

~30 crits. Maybe more.
4 DNFs, one crash.
3 top 10 finishes.
Lots of slaving for the Man. Lots of winning done by the Man (men).
$300 in entry fees paid before June-ish. One entry fee since.
Up ~$1200-1500 (winnings minus equipment, gas) on the year.
Free bike, shoes, helmet, half dozen kits, winter and casual wear next year.

Not too bad. Learned a lot, took my beatings, and hopefully I'll come back stronger and smarter next season.

First race season, got a late start, did maybe a dozen cat 5 circuit races, a few top 10 finishes (small fields) one 4/5 crit. DNF one 4/5 circuit race mid field 20-ish/50.

slim_77
08-30-08, 11:02 PM
15 races: 8 as a cat 5; 7 as a cat 4

10 top 10 finishes:
1-win
1-3rd place
1-4th place
2-5th place
1-6th place
1-7th place
1-9th place
2-10th place

2- DNF: both were RR. One with lots of hills and too much time off the bike prior to the race.

Great first season racing. I learned lots. Most importantly what I need to improve for next season. Next seasons goal: Cat 3 upgrade by the end of Superweek.

Too lazy to tabulate them all but I have them on my racing schedule (http://www.photoscene.com/kimandsteve/section/schedule/) section of my blog. Looks like 22 races. One was a mountain bike race. One was a TT. A few DNFs, either mechanical or OTB & pulled. A bunch of pack finishes, 1 win, 7 points. The win is all I care about :D

Just hook up with Earl B and Gary S in your area over the winter and at least you'll be guaranteed the fitness to do it. Not sure how much they can help with tactics though. You'll need to come up to Orlando, or head south for some training races before the season starts.

Dear Sandbaggers,

If you listed lots of races where you achieved top 10 or podium finishes, I have reported your results to your local area coordinator.

Not a lot of racing. Still have a 4 day "stage" race left in a few weeks. 1 RR 2 Crits and a TT. Looking forward to it.

This year:
1 RR
6 crits
2 TTs

Not much, but all of it except for 1 race has been from Superweek on.

Nothing to see here....move along...

And I am sure many on here would trade their 50 race starts for just "1" of those wins.

I had ~ 650 race starts from 1992-2006, with a few 70+ seasons, but have taken a back seat the last two years, heckling from the BF sidelines. Thinking of heading back in '09, but have no desire to train the whole year just to do 20 events like most of the fella's on here. It's either on, or off for this old-schooler. Maybe I ought to wait until 2010 when I turn 45.

Also, why is this thread happening now. Here in FL, there are still many weekends of racing left and a number of training races to boot. Oct signifies the red kite.

It's pretty much all over in Virginia, despite the fact that the weather in September is generally much nicer than in the summer.
RR - 7
Crit - 4

Points to 12 in Collegiate C. 0 points, although I did manage 2 13th places :( Got creamed in the USAC cat 4 races.

Track - 4

During race season here you can race almost every day of the week if you wanted to.

Time. I've passed a bunch of races. Even locally. There are a lot of races in TX, but I certainly wouldn't be able to show my license every day of the week or anything.

Here's what I just sent my team organizer:

Cherry Pie Criterium: 11th place
Ronde Van Brisbeen: 34th (and I wasn't close to DFL -- it was a huge field)
Wente Vineyards Classic (Road Race): 15th
Mt. Diable Hill Climb: 6th
Esparto TT: 4th
Winters Road Race: 19th

Tandem Results:
Steve Dunlap Memorial Memorial Time Trail: 6th

I signed up for 2 races for which I did not show up -- once I had the flu, and the other race I had to work. Stuff happens. It's my first year. Good training.

We have 1 more tandem time trial in Folsom on Sept. 12th, otherwise my season is finished. I'm already looking to next year and planning my events and training.

11 mass starts with a win, a 3rd, and a 5th which suits me fine considering I was mostly working for the team (not needing/wanting the upgrade points). The TTs went well with 13 total entered this year. I wish I could have raced more, and hope that next year my schedule will finally allow me to race more often.

I realized I left a 2 man TT off. So it's 53 and 26. Little less than half, little more than half on the GC's.

The team rode great BTW, some of my best races were watching my teammates ride off for the win or a podium. With a couple of other noteworthy BF'ers joining next year, I'm looking forward to even more fun.

15 races, zero results, zero crashes, zero shellings (I never got dropped by the peloton).

Any season you can walk away from is a good season. Besides, it's all about the Posing and the whole Fred vs. Road Nazi Trash Talk anyway.

All kidding aside, the team I help to sponsor, Global Locate, had a fantastic season filled with results in the NY 35+ racing scene, and two of our 40+ guys were in the top 3 in the Cat 3 crit racing rankings in NJ. The racing made me much fitter/faster, the camaraderie was Big Fun, I actually contributed a bit in a couple of the Prospect Park races, and I felt like I was giving something back to this great sport.

Mission accomplished.
