Northeast - NYC: Coney Island Ride on 8/31 anyone?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Going with a small group to Coney Island tomorrow (Sunday). No hammering, just a relaxed ride down to grab some hot dogs. If people are very ambitious maybe continue down to the Rockaways.
Meeting some people at 36th and 2nd in Manhattan at 11:30, others on the Brooklyn side of Manhattan Bridge around noon.
Post or PM me if you're coming!

Sounds like fun; spoke to Henri as well. Since I am a weight weenie, I will ration my eating on the way and lobby for more dogs on the return :D
Yup, that's what I try to do! :D
20%. I'll let you know if I can do it.
20%'s better than 0% - woot! :)

I'll meet you in Brooklyn along the way; have to stop at Bay Ridge Bikes.

I wish I had known about this ride, as it sounds like a blast. I hope you all have a great time. If you can find a "fat free" hot dog, eat one for me:)

Matty, we missed you!!! Next time I will call you personally. It was a very fun ride; excellent scenery down by the boardwalk for myself, Air, Noteon, Henria86 and Maury, a new fellow from Queens that Air introduced us to. The hot dog lines were long and everyone in Brooklyn seemed to be in an excellent mood!
We went further into Sheepshead Bay after and it was wierd how we got "buzzed" by oncoming cyclists in our lane two separate times - really dangerous!
After, Henri and I stopped by the little cupcake place in Bay Ridge and he treated me to real espresso!

I am glad you guys had a great time!!! I'm jealous
It's just wrong that my 50-mile day wasn't enough to burn off two Nathan's dogs and fries.

You rode all that way and ONLY had two dogs and fries? Sheesh!
I completely evened out - skipping the fries is key :D
Matty - you said your weekend was shot because of overtime, if I knew you were free you totally would have gotten another personal invite. Doh! :(
Great day for a ride, thanks all for coming! Sorry I took the long way around - with all the time off and stress lately I needed the extra miles in to get ready for the TA Century next week. Once I cross over the bridge for the second time I'm reminded that yes, I'm tired and a shower sounds better than being creative ;) That and making sure the new wheel is up to the challenges of riding - so far passing with flying colors!
Those cyclists riding the wrong way while getting angry at us was unreal. It's why we get such a bad name :(

Yes, but they were large fries.
Since everyone complains about Glen's food, I think I'll compain about Nathan's:
The hot dogs were undercooked
The fries were undercooked (they're frozen and they don't have enough time in the fryer)
They ran out of ketchup and mustard, so the dispensers took forever to squeeze a few dribbles out
They didn't have relish for Henry
The hot dog buns were soggy from the sauerkraut
The positives, though did far outweigh the above:
Women in Coney Island wearing bikinis
The company
The weather
Yes, but they were large fries.

Ha - that's like that in the dead of winter too!

BikeSnob coined a great word for these folks: "bike salmon" They're like fish going upstream - WRONG WAY!!!

Well, these were angry salmon. They weren't just going upstream; they were aiming for us.

Do you think they were? If so, this could be a dangerous trend, suicide cyclists
Yeah, definitely. Air and I were two abreast, me on the street side, and he aimed right for me. I had to drop back and swerve in at the last moment.
Yup - if I was on the outside I would have just stopped. Works everytime. Why they had to be a prick I don't know.
Next time I'll do that--but I spent all my available decision-making moments deciding not to clothesline him with my elbow.
Ha, yeah - that's always a close #2 choice :D
I was just looking at the "what do you guys look like" thread in the Commuting section, and noticing all the people saying they don't have pictures of themselves riding. Next time we do one of these, we should take action pics of each other.

Just got back from a mini trip upstate and
I'm reading these posts about the creeps buzzing you
going the wrong way in MY neighborhood.
Typical south Brooklyn mentality I'm ashamed to say.
Steve - If the buns were soggy, you're eating to slow :).

FrankieV - great neighborhood; I was pretty shocked at this. I grew up in Brooklyn and still see my old neighbors on east 5th and spent a good amount of time at Sheepshead Bay and never ran into (fortunately and literally) this behavior. Part of me is wondering if this is a new "thing" to do and perhaps should be some selective enforcement by PD.
That said, I just got back from a 10 mile ride and the road that I was on had a brick on the right side of the road every 500 ft or so for a mile; perfect for nailing a cyclist.
Why can't everyone just get along?
BF is shutting down in 12 minutes. See you all on the other side of withdrawal.

OT:
LOL; Jedi mind trick worked. I am still able to post :D
I'm still really worried those "suicide cyclists" could be a trend. What do you think?
I think idiot young men have been a trend for about 35,000 years now.
