Introductions - hey hey from monterey- fixies... what does it mean? *scratches head*

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Welcome to BF.. I'm a new comer as well.

fixies = fixed gear bicycle:

It is a special case of single speed bicycles (no gears), but without freewheel. So this makes you NOT able to coast like you can with most bicycles. If you pedal backwards, you WILL go backwards. Many people like them because you get a direct feeling between you and the bike. Many other people just like it because they want to look like a messenger (just like kids pretended to be skaters in the 90s)

Hi meg! It's possible to ride a SS/FG in Monterey, but there's some big hills in that area. Unless you have the proper gear ratio it could be tough to ride except in the flattest areas.

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !
