Hi, Nick here. I live near Traverse City in northern Michigan. I'm 38, father of four kids ranging from eight down to almost-two, and a professional computer nerd.
I don't ride a whole lot, but what I do is generally on the road. What I've found is that I like working on bicycles. I inherited my mom's old 1988-ish Cannondale mountainbike, and kept it chained to various carports and drain-pipes for ten years, then decided a couple of years ago that I could restore it to riding condition...which I did. It kind of set the bug, if you know what I mean.
Next, I found an old $3 bike at an estate sale, and decided I was going to make a beach cruiser out of it. I disassembled it and stripped all the paint off it...then my twins were born, and that was about it for the project. It currently sits in a box waiting for me to finish it.
This summer my dad's wife gave me her grown daughter's old Schwinn StingRay L'il Chik, and I plan to restore that to be my oldest daughter's next bike...despite the project I already have moldering in a box...despite my lack of time...despite my lack of funds...
...but I do plan to do these two projects, and that's pretty much why I'm here. I'll be on the lookout for tips and tricks and stuff on bicycle restoration...or at least someplace to show off a stem or bracket that I made shiny again.
Wow, that was long. Sorry in advance...I type fast and most of my posts seem to do that.
