I don't see how a banana would get smashed under normal circumstances that would facilitate the need for a protective enclosure.

It's about the gadgets, man... all about the gadgets!

Look at the sharp bend of the gadget. You're gonna bruise your banana just by sticking it in.

This is great  I have always wondered how people take bananas with them on rides and enjoy them. Mine always end up on the wrong side of a u-lock beat down...

The USA sellers are pretty limited....

I saw one at wallbike site, but I don't see a specific retention device for frame mounting.

For those that think the angle of banana guard is too sharp, there are alternatives (http://www.bananabunker.com/)...

From the Banana Guard FAQ (note we did this in this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=459216)):

Q: "Is there a battery attachment?"

A: No. The Banana Guard was designed for its intended purpose only as a device to prevent banana trauma during transport.

Holy crapolia! Just look at that thing! Try pulling that out of your camelbak on a trail full of joggers and bikers and you're sure to start a scandal! :roflmao2:

The one I had last week made a mess of the inside of my trunk bag - I could have used this then.

We went to some friends 25th wedding anniversary party over the weekend, and one of the wife's friends mentioned how they had gone to see a guy they called "the big banana from Indiana" when they were younger. It was some inside joke to them, and the rest of us thought it was pretty funny. Except for the husband, who hadn't heard the story before.

From the web page:

The Banana Guard was specially designed to fit the vast majority of bananas.

Oh yes there are others. Check out the aforementioned "we did this in this other thread" thread and you'll come across two alternatives. The banana bunker, for example. When I first opened the banana bunker site I thought I'd come across something incredibly dirty. The way that one looks, I would be in the same boat as the OP in thinking it was for the "freshest" of fresh fruit.

Do you think my husband would get me a banana guard for Xmas, or is that too much to ask for?

Thinking the same thing, but for $12.99, I'll pass. My bags are so crammed with stuff, that it's hard to get fruit to the office in one piece. Bananas are a mess! Crammed into a bag that is then subjected to being strapped onto a bike, tossed into a gym locker, manhandled, thrown back onto the bike again, then unpacked. Only the toughest of bananas survive.

FYI: Just googled banana guard and found the Co.s web site. They're $6.99 there. They have a couple other Froot guards, but nothing to indicate how big they are nor the type of fruits that will fit in them, so I read the FAQs....the last of which is:

Q: "Is there a battery attachment?"
A: No. The Banana Guard was designed for its intended purpose only as a device to prevent banana trauma during transport.
