Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Langster modifications?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just bought a Langster Las Vegas and was wondering...
Has anyone had experience with getting rid of lame decals (in my case, the poker chips that look like beach balls, the dice and the cards) on flat black frames? I was thinking flat black spray paint maybe 5 light coats but I'm sure the difference in blacks/consistency of the flat blacks will be obvious and ugly... any suggestions?

The themed Langsters draw mixed reactions from people around here. I like them because I just think it adds a little fun to the whole thing. My wife is going to freak when I bring home the Tokyo version for her.
Having said that I would not buy one if I was considering doing a repaint on it. The paint is what makes them unique.

they are painted in, no? have to strip it and repaint if you want that.
me wonders why you'd buy a bike you thought had "lame decals" there's plenty of fixed/ss bikes out there that don't come with decals like that, for the price you can probably build one up and paint it whatever color you like. good luck though, i think stripping may be your only option to truly and entirely get rid of them.

I would just cover the decals with stickers or a vinyl film. This way if you ever want to sell it you can remove the stickers and sell it as a limited edition Vegas Langster.

I agree with most of the people on this thread. Why did you buy it if you didn't like the decals in the first place? That's what makes the Langster City series "unique." You would've been much better off buying a bike that didn't have decals.
But all criticism aside, I would get colored sticker/colored vinyl (as suggested above) to cover it up instead of trying to repaint it. If you repaint it, your bike will be worth nothing if you ever choose to sell it.

There's a really easy way to get rid of the decals.
Sell the Langster. Buy something less hideous!
Man, I really feel like I've met my quota for helping people today!

You bought it, and now you have to own it.
If you can't handle it consider selling it and eat the loss. Otherwise just ride it.
IMO, it'll look better in a year or two once the bike has some wear and tear.

I dont get why people pay more for the themed langsters only to repaint them. They cost more because they are painted the way they are.

Sell your damn langster.
I appreciate the insight from those of you who were pleasant enough to stay on the topic.
I've decided to stick with the paint it came with, though I still maintain the poker chips look like beach balls... I suppose for the price I could have bought a flat-black frame with similar components (gold parts where applicable, deep-ish wheels, carbon fork/seatpost).. Then again maybe not... Maybe some of you message board-big dogs slumming around pittsburgh or minneapolis or w/e, in those ratty vans slip-ons could make that happen, but this is my first commuter and I don't have that kind of time...
